Trump who was silent on Ukraine's successful operation against Russia waited days for Putin to instruct him on how to respond.

Happy National Cheese Day! 🧀 Many thanks to @compoundchem.com for providing this super infographic for the “Chemistry of Camembert.” Chemistry is the big cheese behind all the flavour! 😋 #NationalCheeseDay #CurdYourEnthusiasm #LabLife

Pieter Aertsen's Pancake Bakers, 1560. For the vegetarians among us. Early inventory called this a painting of the artist's family. Ha! Aertsen was no peasant, but a great painter, and today is his day.

Correct. A generation of young scientists can be lost in 4 years, and on top of that, scientists (mainly) in China will have done the research you originally planned, and you won't have gained the insights from doing it yourself that would have helped you write grants to move on to the next level.

We hope you don't find the etymology of 'tawdry' morally sordid, base, or distasteful.

🇺🇸🤔 A senior official who dismantled the US government’s Russian disinformation unit is married to a Russian woman with links to the Kremlin, - The Telegraph Darren Beattie has provoked alarm within the State Department since being appointed in February for his ardent pro-Russian views.

one particularly damning graph of tech company energy use from the excellent @ketanjoshi.co blog post below Also note that e.g. Amazon has stopped publishing estimates of their energy use as of the last two years. I wonder why? 🙄

Incredibly, it still remains the main outlet for British politicians. They seem to have no idea that they're sowing the seeds of their own demise.

had a lovely evening with my friend, his five year old and his two year old and spiritually it was a bit like hanging out with your normal mate, his mate who's downed four strong coffees in a row and his other mate who's been on the lash for twelve hours

Many jobs in the military I find highly impressive, but the ability of people to do them make sense. Eg train a lot, at some point you will be able to carry a backpack really far. Landing a helicopter on a rolling deck is one of the things I just don’t understand how you learn without first dying 😅

Message from a sports fan friend: "Incredible from Simon Yates. Hope he’s in contention for BBC sports personality of the year." He won't even make the shortlist - though Simon Yates, who doesn't care about being famous, won't mind.

I would have a bit more sympathy with this view point if employers weren’t doing pretty much sweet FA to train staff themselves. Another way of looking at this would be that they get a massive state subsidy in the form of skilled graduates and technical staff and still they complain….

Cherry picking - but the good type!

What a relief we've done away with DEI and are now assigning government posts purely based on merit.

The fossil fuel industry is desperately scared to data like this showing that Victorians are starting to ditch their methane and propane fueled heating systems at greater and greater rates. Join the team of their former customers by installing heat pumps in your buildings and going fossil free.

Please listen to the UN General Secretary.

Russian losses to Operation Pautyna/Spiderweb. An ongoing thread as updates are added. 1/

UnitedHealth secretly pressured nurses to change patients' records to include DNRs (Do Not Resuscitate) without their consent, so those patients would die instead of being saved with medical interventions that could cost UnitedHealth money. This is murder. www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025...

Trump bragged about spending $1B bombing Houthis while getting Reaper drones shot down and losing two fighter jets to the bottom of the Red Sea while accomplishing nothing and leaking it in Signal, while “you don’t have the cards” Zelensky wipes out 40 bombers deep inside Russia.

Amazing to see how Musk’s X, with its algorithms deliberately encoded to suppress news of Ukraine, isn’t even trending in the last two days on one of the most dramatic developments in modern warfare — the destruction of strategic bombers by drones

Reminder, since it's in the news again, of the changes in the proposed new contract for Drax biomass power plant

Overheard: Apparently Zelenskyy had some cards, and he didn’t need a suit.

Makary knows that ACIP is not a kangaroo court, but a panel of experts who make recommendations based on evidence, not political objectives. The FDA Commissioner is trying to take vaccines away & is too inept to come up with a remotely believable justification why.

yeah several of my Moroccan relatives have wanted to come visit me over the years and it's just never ended up being feasible, despite all of them being very middle-class and in reasonably well-paid professions - it really sucks!

Western Military Experts: Our conventional support for Ukraine is constrained due to Russia’s nuclear strike capabilities Ukraine: Ok, we’ll just eliminate that. Western Military Experts: what

Whatever happened to @microsoft.com's "moonshot" emissions reduction pledge? @ketanjoshi.co digs deep, shows how the company is using dodgy carbon accounting to conceal how bad things have gotten. The pledge has essentially been abandoned in the race for AI dominance. ketanjoshi.co/2025/05/31/t...

in a way it's actually really funny how little it took to completely undermine 200 years of declaration of how much America loves free speech
