🌀 So proud to see that our research has been featured in The Guardian! 😯 🦜60 species restricted to a single location on a single island face immediate extinction by a cyclone🌀 🌀 Today they are present but following a cyclone they may go extinct overnight 🌀 www.theguardian.com/news/2025/ju...

🌀For many island species, the next tropical cyclone may be their last 🌀 📖Read our article on The Conversation here: theconversation.com/for-many-isl... #Biodiversity #ClimateChange #ConservationScience #IslandBiodiversity #TropicalCyclones #IUCN

🍺🏚️ We hatched the idea for this work whilst having beer at a grubby pub 🌪️ We hope this work will stimulate more conversations & research collaborations around the threat tropical cyclones pose to island biodiversity 🦜🏝️ 📄 Read more at: lnkd.in/eKnRADMM @unibirmingham.bsky.social

Getting to know my cohort and learning some very important transferable skills somewhere new to me (Cheltenham) 😃 intense at times but intimately fun. Just like a PhD is supposed to be right? I hope so!

My favourite bird and one that I deeply care about. Because of this, I continue to do a range of efforts to highlight this species vulnerability to extinction by hurricanes (this being one of such). I sincerely hope to see this bird again one in future #ornithology

I'm giving a talk here next month. For anyone that wishes to attend online to see any talk or posters, here's your chance to register your interest

Nice Christmas present this year - new paper on the inferred impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on hunted mammal species in Cusuco National Park, Honduras, just accepted! Great work by Dylan McKenna pushing it through. Pre-proof version here: www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...

This blog from Tim Chamberlain illustrates an incredible day spent climbing up a ~40m tree to be in awe at the canopy that lay above. This took place at Cusuco National Park, Honduras, during 2024 expedition with Operation Wallacea. Curious? Read here: www.timctree.co.uk/blog/blog-ho...

Nice bit of recognition for my talk at @unibirmingham.bsky.social Research Showcase 2024 event this week. Won best PhD talk (with Bahama Warbler and Bahama Nuthatch story). Learned about my peers' research, met new people and reconnected with old faces. Joy!

A paper telling a story I never wanted to tell nor did I think we ever would...

Participating in this program was an awesome experience! Highly recommend applying (also the location this year 😍!) Happy to answer questions about the experience if anyone has #WOS2025 #ornithology

A great opportunity for would be mentors to motivate, advice and engage with students and early career researchers within ornithology!
