Always a pleasure to talk hockey with puck-knowers like @dimfilipovic.bsky.social and @tiffin.bsky.social . Oettinger's brilliance, Granlund's heroics, more triple digit IQ work from the Stars' penalty kill - we cover it all in this recap of Dallas vs. Winnipeg. open.spotify.com/episode/60ko...

Sorry, Flyers fans.

Call it The Mikael Granlund Game. @tiffin.bsky.social @davidcastillo.bsky.social

In which @tiffin.bsky.social and @davidcastillo.bsky.social wax poetic about The Mikael Granlund Game (and other things, too). What We Saw, What It Felt Like: Game 4 www.dmagazine.com/sports/2025/...

Damn. Roope Hintz was throwing chingasos at Mark Scheifele.

Even-strength is a problem, but Dallas' penalty kill has been impossibly good. They've got Winnipeg second-guessing their plays down low, taking low percentage point shots.

Yea it's a bad goal, but Dallas is fortunate they're not down by more after that first period.

Dallas has done a really good job of forcing Winnipeg to dump the puck in on their power play entries.

Connor Hellebuyck's road record is...something. It genuinely doesn't make sense. Even "Hellebuyck = bad in the playoffs" should have some accidental course correction.

With Thomas Harley staking his claim as a true number one/star defenseman, kind of hoping we see some Lindell-Heiskanen minutes as he settles in; force opponents to deal with them for 50 minutes a night (doesn't hurt that Harley's numbers w/Ceci were better than Lindell's w/Ceci)

How Thomas Harley has become the Mikko Rantanen of Dallas' blueline -- holding everything together, in all three zones. Yes, with elite defense too. dcastillo.substack.com/p/tales-from...

At last, something other than a "Joel Quenneville took steps/management did their diligence" (the steps being a Brink's truck, and diligence being conversations amongst friends in a dark room) fluff piece. Sara bringing the diligence as always.

Doing some film room analysis on Thomas Harley's impact on the defensive side of the puck for tomorrow, and I'm convinced he's right up there (long term) with Zach Werenski in terms of three-zone impact: a blueliner who compounds his defense WITH good offense.

"This Dallas team doesn’t need a full deck to put even the best opponents on tilt. Just ask Nathan MacKinnon." — cold, cold finisher from @davidcastillo.bsky.social 😮‍💨

It's not quite Mother's Day Massacre-status, but Game 3 was close. Here are @tiffin.bsky.social and @davidcastillo.bsky.social on how the Stars got their groove back. www.dmagazine.com/sports/2025/...

I can't imagine being a fan of either team in this Florida vs. Toronto series. I'd be out of my mind with all the missed calls, and dirty ass shit (from both teams). The league, of course, co-signs it all.

Mr. @tiffin.bsky.social and I recap Game 3 of Dallas vs. Winnipeg, the Mikko Rantanen show (special guest: Dallas' special teams), and why this win feels more symbolic than most. www.dmagazine.com/sports/2025/...

Good on the Sportsnet feed for highlighting the bottom pair of Lian Bichsel and Alex Petrovic for something other than Hulk Smash. 60 percent expected goal share, and 63 percent in shot share. Sheltered minutes or not, they're dominating what they're being given.

Thomas Harley: elite.

Winnipeg roars back, and the series is tied heading to Dallas. @tiffin.bsky.social @davidcastillo.bsky.social

Great stuff from Jack, as always. This Dallas vs. Winnipeg series is catnip for tactics nerds.

Alright, let's all read @tiffin.bsky.social and @davidcastillo.bsky.social on Game 2, purge it, get to bed, celebrate our moms, and see what Sunday afternoon brings. Cool? Cool. www.dmagazine.com/sports/2025/...

Confirmed: I do not watch much hockey.

Gotta give credit to Winnipeg: they're the sharper team in the neutral zone right now, and that's been the difference.

Mikko Rantanen might be the first player I've ever heard get boo'ed simply because he's too good. Avs fans at least had cause (however misdirected). Jets fans might as well be chanting "please don't score."

I thought that was mostly good work from Dallas' PK. Yea Winnipeg scored, but their PP is the best for a reason. Can't give them too many opportunities.

It's hilarious how quickly Winnipeg decided "let's do the opposite of what Ray Bennett and Colorado did to attack Dallas' PK" and went straight to the corner/backwall to trap the bottom of their diamond formation.

Re-watching Game 1, and not enough can be said about the Thomas Harley effect in all three zones. Dude really is a star. (Chart hugger's note: his total xWAR this season, or expected Wins Above Replacement of 4.8, was above the Norris Finalists of Hughes, Makar, and Werenski.)

New PDOcast with @spetershockey.bsky.social: •Broke down Leafs vs Panthers Game 2 + Jets vs Stars Game 1 •FLA's positional aggression + TOR punishing them for it •Head to head matchups to watch •Rantanen can't stop scoring •Very different style of game for WPG + DAL compared to RD1 bit.ly/3RUAPzq

Mikko Rantanen has scored 6 goals in his past 14:53 of ice time

lol

Thomas Harley: elite.

Great work by Dallas' penalty kill. Great work by Winnipeg's power play. Fun tactical stuff for the whole family.

Mikko Rantanen, noted playoffs killer.

Nino Niederreiter, noted Stars killer.

Super fascinated by this special teams matchup. Dallas destroyed Colorado playing the top aggressively. Colorado had no answer. Winnipeg right away gets the puck down low. Dallas counters back. Should be a classic chess match.

That Lian Bichsel possession was lowkey slick. That kind of agility for a small building shouldn't be possible.

Anyone cool with this series being played via gentlemen's agreement? The Dallas Stars without Heiskanen and Robertson. The Winnipeg Jets without Scheifele and Morrissey. It's the only way to be sure.

How does Kotkaniemi not get that pass to the middle? My guy come TF on. (I think it was Kotkaniemi)

Logan Stankoven: elite.

Dallas did great work, but Colorado making zero changes to their approach or attack was felt. It's why the contrast was so stark, looking at Wyatt Johnston's Game 7 power play goal that came from a great set play vs Avs spinning all those perimeter passing wheels.

Really great preview from the Winnipeg side. As all of Garret's work is.
