I want to take a moment to share an excerpt from the Declaration of Independence's grievances against King George III. Sound familiar?

Tom Lehrer performed this satire something like 70 years ago... www.youtube.com/watch?v=eFvx...

#BigBullShitBill

Call your Senators and let them know not to pass the Big Bullshit Bill!

Marine veterans are speaking out against the troop deployment in Los Angeles. Across the country, they’re taking down their American flags that have flown in front of their homes for years. Remember, we have friends everywhere.

NEW: Hegseth is deploying Marines against U.S. citizens. Mayor Bass says to know your rights :

Dear USA Deploying troops against civilians will not go well. Yours Great Britain and Northern Ireland

There is no bigger story right now than the White House asserting that California residents are in a state "of rebellion against the authority of the Government of the United States."

If you are currently planning your time at @chalkefestival.bsky.social do please consider dropping in on Rob Lyman and me on the Thursday morning as we delve into some of the darker corners of 1945, and discuss what I call 'imperial muscle memory'.

If the general public knew more about Al-Qaeda's activities prior to 2001, there'd be a lot less 9/11 truthers out there. The current popular view seems to be that Osama bin Laden just came out of nowhere and hijacked some planes when he was really waging war against America since the early 90s.

I can attest that if you were at least somewhat following the news in the couple of years before 9/11 then ObL is someone you would have already heard of, even if only vaguely. I had heard of him and wasn’t a particularly assiduous Middle East news maven.

At what point may the (hitherto) united states begin rejecting the orders of the federal government. Would they need to, formally, at all?

3 June 1582: Again a fairly quiet day, it being Sunday. Two of Walsingham's agents in the Netherlands report; the siege of Oudenaarde is progressing achingly slowly: 'It is now 6 weeks and 3 days since the enemy came before Oudenarde and in all this time they have done nothing... 1/ #earlymodern

Gentle reminder to anyone who needs it today: The more you use technology to replace the things you used to do for for yourself, the less you will be able to do them. That goes for writing, walking, thinking, communicating, making things, and all the things humans used to be pretty good at.

Russia has suffered over 1 million casualties, killed and injured, since its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. By contrast, in nearly a decade of war in Afghanistan, the Soviet Union suffered around 50,000 to 65,000 casualties. Putin doesn’t have the cards.

My God, the BBC series about Jane Austen is rubbish. For so many reasons. No sense of history at all.

I think this demonstrates why Ukraine should be in the EU and NATO as soon as possible. We’ve waited far to long as it is. Just like the Swedes and Finns, we want allies of this level of cunning and fighting spirit who intimately understand Russia.

Whatever is going on Summer is wonderful!

Quite right. Beautifully written.

How I wish that stuff on here wasn't all about America (Protests in Georgia -the country - excepted). Try to think about the rest of the world!
