It constantly blows my mind that we have elected someone so gobsmackingly uncomprehending of the gravity and responsibility of his office that he does not grasp how insanely dangerous it is to fire off comments like this on a whim.

🚨 There’s a lot of horrific news out of Washington right now—but you might have missed this: Senate Republicans just introduced a plan to sell off 120 million acres of our public lands. Let me break down what’s in the bill and why it’s a full-scale land grab. 🧵

After the murders in Minnesota, Tim Walz called for "grace and compassion and vision and compromise and decency." Some Republicans chose a far uglier course. Take the increasingly unhinged Sen. Mike Lee, for example. www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddo...

I wouldn’t even wipe my ass with The New York Times at this point.

FIFA Club World Cup ticket sales tank dramatically after the Dept. of Homeland Security bragged that agents would be “suited and booted" at the stadium in a now-deleted social media post

I wrote about Democrats' obsession with calling Trump's actions a "distraction," and how it reflects their failure to understand the modern media ecosystem.

It has been four days since Kristi Noem, the head of the department of homeland security, said this in public. If meant literally, it describes the end of democracy in California. If not meant literally, would be nice for that to be clarified and for the troops to leave. bsky.app/profile/just...

BREAKING: Trump took to Truth Social to stoke panic with a reckless threat, telling Iranians: “Everyone should immediately evacuate Tehran.” It’s 2 a.m. in the Iranian capital. Some 16.8 million Iranians call the Tehran metro area home.

"I've sat on this bench now for 40 years. I've never seen government racial discrimination like this." That's what a Reagan-appointed judge said about Trump cancelling hundreds of NIH grants. We can't stop fighting Trump's assault on science, the NIH, and our values.

Jesus, this video. What a sadistic psychopath. And he was allowed to terrorize people for at least three years before he was finally held accountable.

Too bad there's no opposition political party that could capitalize on this.

honestly i don’t know how we keep a united front together when the center-left prefers a corrupt rapist centrist over a social democrat as mayor

After ruling the NIH grant terminations illegal, Judge Young ended the hearing with an eye-opening speech. “This represents racial discrimination, and discrimination against America’s LGBTQ community. That's what this is. I would be blind not to call it out. My duty is to call it out. And I do so.”

if you're trans or black or muslim, everything you do is considered political, but if you're a christian terrorist, you're just an apolitical part of The System (derogatory)

Have any Utah Republicans called Mike Lee out? Anyone ask @spencercox.bsky.social? Or how about the LDS church? Do they have any firm positions on lying and laughing about murder?

Great line here: "Considered individually, defendants’ legal arguments are meritless. Considered in the aggregate, they are terrifying."

All while pretending it’s about ‘government experience’ rather than ideology. We have an entire intellectual elite that is allergic to clearly stating what they think and providing evidence.

I don't think I've ever felt more like burning it all down than I have while witnessing the elite project to turn Zohran Mamdani and Brad Lander into scary, incompetent monsters while turning an actual incompetent monster, Andrew Cuomo, into a merely complicated fellow who just made an oopsie.

“He seemed a little surprised to be confronted.” Yeah, that’s the problem with the clubby atmosphere of the Senate. This guy thinks he can spread vile lies without pushback. Good for @smith.senate.gov for puncturing that delusion

SEN. TINA SMITH: “.. I hope that my talking with him will cause him to think more about the hateful things that he has been putting out on his personal X account that really should have no place in our public discourse.” @politico.com www.politico.com/live-updates...

A top staffer to Sen. Tina Smith emailed Sen. Mike Lee’s top staffers on Monday about “how much additional pain you’ve caused on an unspeakably horrific weekend” Full emails below

Everybody knows that funeral rites and respect for the wishes and dignity of the dead is as close to a universal human value as there is, one that pre-dates the written word. What my thesis presupposes is, maybe it isn’t? My latest for the Atlantic:

Even assuming, for the sake of the argument, that Smith lacks personhood, that doesn't mean there aren't legal interests on her end. Trusts & Estates law wouldn't exist if that were true. We could simply ignore every last will and testament. We could discard remains regardless of a person's wishes.

“abuse of a corpse” is a punishable offense because we as a society still have a shared notion of dignity for the dead this is just state-sanctioned abuse if, in the eyes of the law, Smith is dead and no longer capable of choice or of possessing any interest

I don't think Liz Bruenig is clever enough to understand her argument is literally just "estate law should not exist"

The Atlantic should be ashamed of publishing this nightmare piece from Liz Bruenig, whose callous dismissal of Adriana Smith's dignity is one of the most shocking things I've ever read.

🚨 BREAKING: Nearly 4 months the NIH cut its first grants, a judge has ruled that the directives and process that led to cuts are arbitrary and capricious. "The explanations are bereft of reasoning — virtually in their entirety... unsupported by [facts]." Each of them are VOID and ILLEGAL, he says.

The same is true in how local elections work. —0 article in the New York Times this spring about the reelection of Philadelphia's reform DA (and arguably the most famous reform DA in the country), Larry Krasner. —Quite different last fall when LA's reform DA lost.

EXCLUSIVE: A GOP congressman from N. Carolina appears to have violated the STOCK Act by failing to properly disclose hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of "Liberation Day"-timed stock purchases from which he profited after quickly selling. From me in @fortune.com: fortune.com/2025/06/16/t...

THIS IS IT! THIS IS HUGE!! PLAINTIFF'S WIN!! Judge Young rules that the NIH grant terminations at issue in these cases are illegal and therefore vacated. BOOM!

The official X/Twitter account of the Montana Young Republicans (which in its bio claims to be "chartered by" the National Young Republicans) posting what a photo of what appears to be Rhodesian soldiers.

If one looks at the data, De Blasio’s NYC was *far* safer than Eric Adams”. Yet De Blasio was depicted as weak, and in favor of disorder, while Eric Adams is depicted as a strong crime fighter even though his NYC is more disordered and he and his aides are literally facing/faced criminal charges.

Cuomo quietly passed a law shielded nursing home corporations and their CEOs from COVID victims families' lawsuits - as his political machine raked in $2 million from the hospital/nursing home lobby. Now, voters may reward him by making him their mayor.

The Minnesota shooter was a big InfoWars fan, according to his roommate. Naturally, his favorite website has spent the last two days calling their big murderous fan a Democrat and a patsy.

Calls for civility are meaningless when her colleagues Mike Lee and Bernie Moreno are lying that the assassin was a leftist. They’re fueling hatred on the right while she’s taking the high ground.

I agree. The fact that we have so many easily abused laws on the books – laws that have emergency clauses allowing the president to exercise vast powers if he claims there is an emergency – is political malpractice. And absolutely get rid of awful old laws like the Alien and Sedition Acts.

what in cuomo’s recent “help get a bunch of people killed unnecessarily and then get real mad about Cancel Culture” platform and career makes anyone at the Times feel that his leadership and policies would be better for New York City

This is continued journalistic malpractice from the @startribune.com normalizing a violent white male suspect. He owned a private security company called Praetorian Guard, traveled overseas to preach against abortion and LGBTQ+ people, and attended a bible college that preaches "violent prayer."

American Bar Association sues Trump Admin to halt government intimidation of lawyers and law firms. www.americanbar.org/news/abanews...

1/ The ABA has sued the Trump administration over its policy of targeting law firms. The ABA is represented by the same team of superlawyers at Susman Godfrey, including Stephen Shackleford and Davida Brook, that represented Dominion in its lawsuits against Fox News et al over 2020 election lies.

Where in god’s name are we as a society when “being young and ambitious on policy” is an unforgivable sin, while “being corrupt and resigning in disgrace after then sexual predation of dozens of women” is not?

So many of these events were crazy, but my brain is broken by this part. A cop shows up, sees another cop there, pulls up next to him, he refuses to even look at her, and she doesn't even clock it as suspicious. Truly insane.
