Derby’s railway village. Built by the Midland Railway. Partially saved by the Derby Civic Society. I used to live in a Midland Railway house at Hellifield at the southern end of the Settle-Carlisle Railway, a long way from Derby, but linked by the parallel rails of the Midland Railway.

There seems to be a theme emerging here. Another Derby beer garden oddity. This time the Alex, fittingly near the station.

It’s test match eve in the sunny East Midlands. I’m staying in Derby and bumped into this beauty in the Exeter Arms beer garden.

Margaret Kilyon returned to the Record Cafe to talk about the journeys and stories behind her Dad's diverse collection of signatures and sporting curiosities contained in his scrapbook, collected from the 1930s, into World War Two and beyond. It was a fascinating, and at times deeply personal, talk.

Jimmy Speirs. On this day in 1911 he was City’s Captain and goalscorer in the FA Cup final. He showed the cup to 100,000 fans when team returned to Bradford. 6 years later he was killed at the Battle of Passchndaele. #bcafc

Filey's fabled 'Roman' jetty has intrigued historians for decades. New bathymetric survey images offer a chance to reevaluate the structure. Is it a medieval quarry harbour? Or was it really the Roman's who built what is probably Filey's oldest man made structure?
