Some ICOs have set deadlines for mid-July for transfers to occur in FY 2025. If you're a PI who is going to another institution this summer, email your PO and GM NOW to coordinate the relinquishment from your current institution with your onboarding at your new institution.

URGENT: FlyBase has lost practically all its funding overnight; even user fees are tied up in denied grant funding. 🤬🤯 Any lab using @flybase.bsky.social please donate using the link in post below. This incredible community, on whose backs our #Drosophila labs depend, can't be left out to dry.

Together with @macshine.bsky.social & @elimuller.bsky.social we have a cool interdisciplinary project on compositional cognition, and we’re looking for a PhD student. More details here www.findaphd.com/phds/project... DM or email any questions Please RT or pass on to interested students. Thanks!

The Brain-Body Research Institute @IcahnMountSinai is hiring an Associate Director to build clinical and translational research in brain-body sciences. See ad here: neuroscience.mssm.edu/pdf/Brain-Bo.... @sinaibrain.bsky.social @sinaiimmuno.bsky.social @brainbodylab.bsky.social

Far from being a passive neighbor to the locus coeruleus, the pericoeruleus appears to act as a kind of micromanager of arousal, selectively inhibiting different subgroups of locus coeruleus neurons, writes @macshine.bsky.social. #neuroskyence www.thetransmitter.org/attention/th...

A wonderful day for science, to see the (peri) #LC in all its glory. A ginormous effort from all involved, and a fantastic resource for the field. Chapeau 🎩 🧠 🔵 www.nature.com/articles/s41...

New NIH policy eliminates foreign subcontracts. Eventually replaced with "independent awards that are linked to the prime award", but no details provided. Yet another obstacle for US researchers to collaborate with the global scientific community. So frustrating. grants.nih.gov/grants/guide...

A postdoctoral position is available at University of California San Diego to study the genome-wide contribution of tandem repeat and structural variants to tobacco use disorder and related traits. New review from Kasey Brida on transcriptional & molecular mechanisms in drug-induced plasticity. Here we focused on mechanisms that determine which neurons are activated by drugs, and dynamic transcriptional cascades that facilitate plasticity in these cells. www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...

Brainstem pathology in human narcolepsy: Neurodegeneration in the locus coeruleus in narcoleptic humans, but not in genetically narcoleptic mice or dogs https://www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/2025.04.12.648456v1

Check out some of our locus coeruleus reconstructions - the average fully reconstructed LC neuron is about 30 cm in length (in a mouse brain that spans ~1.3 cm front to back)

THIS IS ONE NEURON! Jaw dropping. It distributes a particular neurotransmitter (norepinephrine) across the mouse brain; it’s a locus coeruleus neuron. @jeremiahycohen.bsky.social and colleagues at the @alleninstitute.bsky.social are using new biotech to see things never seen before.

📣 We’re hiring!!! Elliott Albers & I are looking for a research coordinator to help make discoveries about the neuronal mechanisms underlying altered stress responses & social behaviors. Come join a vibrant 🧠research community at GSU in beautiful #Atlanta. Pls share gsu.taleo.net/careersectio...

Great news: NIH postbac program is recruiting again! If your grad school plans were affected by program cutbacks or admissions freezes this year I highly encourage you to apply, this could be a perfect opportunity. Please repost. www.training.nih.gov/research-tra...

🔵 Interesting new work from @davidweinshenker.bsky.social on why locus coeruleus neurons might be vulnerable to degeneration in humans (Alzheimer's) but not in mice. And a new approach on how this could be modelled in mice through human tyrosinase overexpression: www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...

there is time to try and keep this from happening but unfortunately it costs individuals time and they need to do it! go here to see if your vote is being thrown out: thegriffinlist.com 2 people I know (at least) had their names on this list!

Join me today for the 1st #BlueSpot seminar of the season 🫶 I'll give you a run down on how peptidergic modulation of the #LC regulates stress & anxiety! Looking forward to an exciting discussion ☺️ Time: 11 AM EST Place: zoom.us/j/99332227402 🧠🔵

$117M in DeKalb county and $328M in GA, loss of 1418 jobs. Plus the incalculable cost of future time lost with loved ones because of delays in treatments and cures. It’s not efficiency, it’s heartbreaking.
