“US intelligence assessments had reached a different conclusion—not only was Iran not actively pursuing a nuclear weapon, it was also up to three years away from being able to produce and deliver one…according to four people familiar with the assessment” www.cnn.com/2025/06/17/p...

Good @nktpnd.bsky.social thread on why Trump's irresponsible posting is so scary, whatever he may or may not have decided. The enemy gets a vote.

Every day the IDF are slaughtering civilians seeking food. Day on, day out, slaughter.

Warning over risk to endangered birds' nests from dogs www.rte.ie/news/regiona... Don't assume you can let your dog loose if there are no sheep. Keep your dog on a leash in woods, wetlands, heath, bog and mountains. It is uncultivated land but its only wild if you're not destroying nesting grounds.

This seems right to me.

Beyond the abuse of the word deterrence, and recognising the utter shit show in US diplomacy and military administration, it is a bit rich to be faulting anyone in the WH for not having the amassed forces of the US in the Persian Gulf to protect the belligerent launching a war with no co-ordination.

I see John Bolton is available to spread democracy or monarchy or something.

LOL “Counterproliferation Gazelle” Israel seems pretty damned maximalist if were trying to get Trump to sign off on assassinating Supreme Leader. That is not something one does if one expects to negotiate w/existing regime ffs.

As my colleague @liorsternfeld.bsky.social says, bombing the national TV station is classic regime change move.

Deterring whom? Very hard for some to accept who the aggressor is.

Arab officials in touch with both the US and Iran tell Middle East Eye that the White House appears to be moving closer to ‘backing up’ Israel directly on the battlefield.

Tankers last night, CVNs today. War is going to expand

Two things are true. 1. This is militarily impressive and significantly enhances Israel's ability to limit damage to itself in a conventional war. 2. In a nuclear war, this level of damage limitation wouldn't feel at all meaningful.

This isn't a nuclear site. The Israeli campaign isn't against the nuclear site infrastructure. And it isn't a SAM site protecting that infrastructure. They're engaged in a regime decapitation campaign.

America is returning to the issuing of company scrip...

oh man

I’m increasingly worried the plan here is to project Syria’s fate onto Iran. I have doubts they succeed, but the kind of regime change war Israel is embarking on is one that prioritizes a broken, weak Iran over any particular political or ideological character.

Do Americans understand that Israel's plan is to have them fight a war against Iran on their behalf?

Israel has unleashed a horror show.

Latest live footage from Al Jazeera is showing huge plumes of smoke rising from Tel Aviv after explosions were heard.

An international nuclear non-proliferation policy disaster.

Iranian regime self-preservation instincts appear not to have been sharpened by the Hezbollah degradation campaign. A lot of obvious targets being caught in the open. A weird dynamic that the IDF might over-achieve on weakening or preventing response, and thus the US do not get drawn in.

Mobsterism as international relations

Looks like the Israelis are now hitting targets around Tabriz. Like the pager attacks against Hezbollah, yesterday night was the start of a rolling assault, not a one-off.

Adobe just telling me I can never quit the subscription to them, ever, and making some assumptions about my laptop upgrade cycle.

The US being drawn into a *widespread* war is the Israeli plan.

This is a total disaster for US nonproliferation policy that, by withdrawing from the JCPOA in 2018, Trump owns completely.

The United States destroyed the Iranian nuclear deal Israel launched a war. They are 100% responsible for this. And their voters picked these miserable tyrants as leaders willingly and freely, because they are violent and dysfunctional countries.

A note on this: Israel is calling this operation a "preemptive" one; this is incorrect. It is preventive (which is illegal under international law). Netanyahu himself suggested Iran was "months" to "a year" away from a nuclear weapon capability in his speech announcing the operation.

They are killing the negotiators.

Israeli military strikes Iran nuclear targets; Revolutionary Guard Corps vow revenge after commander killed – live www.theguardian.com/world/live/2... I knew they'd do it. They couldn't resist. What a disaster.

Another angle of Senator Padilla's confrontation with Kristi Noem here via FoxNews:

Apart a physical assault on a fucking US Senator, she is literally describing the use of the US Marines as to "liberate" the city from the Mayor of the City and the Governor of the State. Wildly fascist breakdown in US governance. Not constitutional backsliding, actual collapse.

Not welcome news....

If you see direct participation by a member of the Marine Corps in a search, seizure, arrest, or other similar LE activity you're in a very bad place. Guessing dismantling JAGs is going to have an effect here.
