I normally avoid doom-and-gloom, but yesterday a reasonably intelligent person sitting at a table with me used chatGPT to get incorrect information, instead of looking at a detailed FAQ document that a marketing department probably spent 300 hours creating. My hope for humanity is struggling

Our friends at @apexmag.bsky.social have written about how their work has been affected by the Diamond bankruptcy and they could use your support through their Patreon and preorders. Article: www.apexbookcompany.com/blogs/frontp... Patreon: www.patreon.com/posts/import...

I've been having a hankering for older tv recently, and after watching a season of Adam-12, making my way through half of the 1st season of Starsky and Hutch, I just found out Prime has the Bionic Woman. I may or may not continue Starsky & Hutch.

I am tagging a queer artist every day this month and today it's another local SF/horror author @stephanneauthor.bsky.social! Their books will on sale at Smashwords next month, so do not miss! bsky.app/profile/step...

If you are out and about #Ottawa today, I'll be selling and signing books at the Tom Brown Arena in Hintonberg, 12-5pm. And I'm here with @brandoncrilly.bsky.social!

Quite coincidentally, I also have a story in the Jul/Aug issue of @asimovssfmag.bsky.social, on the best newsstands and for sale digitally.

I've been so busy with work, novel editing, toddler son and eldest son that I've not been visiting here as much as I want. I'm trying to get everything sailing smoothly. In the meantime, I have a new story in clarkesworld that you can read for free: clarkesworldmagazine.com/kunsken_06_25/

Stephen King: Submitted for the approval of the midnight society, i call this the tale of the dark tower King: and here's the crazy thing, guys King: i'm telling this story King: but i'm also IN this story Barker: holy shit steve Barker: you just blew my motherfuckin mind

La Maison des Saints (Les Profondeurs de Vénus, tome 2), de Derek Künsken - https://feygirl.home.blog/2024/07/19/la-maison-des-saints-les-profondeurs-de-venus-tome-2-de-derek-kunsken/

This actually applies to me as a reader too. If I'm not pulled in quickly, I move to the next thing in my TBR tower.

Big agree.

So Mirriam Webster has announced that 'FRIDGE' is an official word in their dictionary now, and sited me as the concept's creator in the definition. Very cool, and weird at the same time. I got death threats over this, cool for it it to be recognized. www.merriam-webster.com/slang/fridge

Another question: should I run chrome or edge? Or are they equally crappy for my privacy? I used chrome on my old laptop and it has all my favorites.

Every few years the old laptop runs down after thousands of hours. I bought a new laptop yesterday. It is gray.

Cannibalize has been answered! Thanks bluesky!

I can't remember a word. What do we call it when we take pieces from a working machine to build something else? It's not scavenge or bastardize. I haven't used the word in decades and now can't remember.

I was very moved by Plant Based Bride's praise of The House of Styx and House of Saints! Her coverage starts around 30 minutes :)

I wrote "The End" on the 1st draft of the 4th Quantum Evolution novel! I'll have to trim a fair bit in edits. I'm now reading to see what I have. I'm more excited now that there's at least a draft in black and white. Feels like it took a while to draft, but #toddlersslowdownwriting.

I can’t understand, after the last 30 years of it happening EVERY TIME, how people think AI is going to stay free Once everyone’s reliant, it’ll cost a fortune we just “have” to pay Its energy needs will cost us the only world we have All so someone doesn’t have to write their own Reddit shitpost

Yesterday I referred to the fact that #Murderbot has a "teaching burden." In storytelling terms, I call this "information management." What does the audience need to know and by when? How can you get that info in at the optimal time without overwhelm? This show is doing a great job of it. 🧵

bigots love to see marginalized communities attack each other. Empathy and Kindness, y'all. empathy. and. kindness.

So close...

Slowly sneaking up on "The End" of this first draft. Maybe today, maybe tomorrow, I think. Then it will be the time to see what the 4th quantum evolution looks like.

Can we complain about the poor quality of toddler sleep, or is that for a different social media platform? Send caffeine in any case...

some men are literally on an active daily mission to never get laid again

If your business model requires not paying for IP you want to use, maybe you have a bad business model.

Very interesting take.

I'm so close to writing "the end" on the first draft of the fourth quantum evolution novel so I'm parked at a park after dropping off toddler at daycare, before I have to start work. How many words can I get? 400? 800?
