RIP Alasdair MacIntyre, a towering figure the likes of which this world rarely produces. Perhaps I shouldn't be surprised that his influence extended far beyond his scholarship:

Need some enterprising group to start pushing Matthew 6:5-8 monuments in our public buildings.

EMDR is awesome. So are the right meds. I've been in therapy off and on. These days it's walks, painting miniatures, playing the banjo - the small set of activities that can get my brain into a relaxed flow state. A former colleague of mine does a weekly guided meditation for #firedfeds, it's great.

@responsiblehs.bsky.social we're trending - hooray!?!?

Just show up, address children as people, model kindness and respect, provide opportunities to get out in the community. The folks who hosted language classes, pool time, etc. in my homeschooling group weren't all as controlling as my parents, but my parents thought they were safe. That helped.

This.

Positive examples of people living with and managing mental health conditions openly; more consistent access to third spaces and extracurriculars (I got grounded a lot for the most minor shit); adults who would stand up to my parents when they knew what was happening #homeschoolchat

Not well. Denial, ignorance, shame and stigma, "just turn to G_d."

If you know a kid who's homeschooled and may be struggling, don't look away. You can change their life just by being a caring, supportive adult. Here are a few ways you can get involved: responsiblehomeschooling.org/advocacy/kid... #HomeschoolChat

C) some of my independence, confidence, and resilience I would also attribute to how I was schooled. #homeschoolchat

A) being homeschooled and being abused were separate but tightly related experiences. So, childhood trauma. B) late-diagnosed (as an adult) cognitive differences and mental health needs, though I'm old enough it might have been missed in mainstream school back then, too.

I first learned about CRHE from this chat back when it was over at the other place. So glad it's back!

Our Mental Health Awareness Month #HomeschoolChat starts in roughly 20 minutes!

By homeschooled people, for homeschooled people 🫂 Join us here tomorrow at 7 p.m. ET for #HomeschoolChat, an online discussion for formerly homeschooled adults. We’ll be talking all things mental health. See you then!

RFK Jr's always going on about "healthy" and what he means is a mixture of nihilism and eugenics, that public health and medicine are pointless because "unhealthy" people are going to (and deserve to) die anyway. Never mind the kid's death was easily preventable. Call them "unhealthy" and move on.

I'm sorry, but isn't this just the Cultural Revolution 2.0? Why on earth would fired aid workers and NIH medical researchers go to work on assembly lines for worse salaries in jobs they don't know how to do? Why are they getting their economic policy from Mao?

I would be making a big deal out of this if I were an elected Democrat

“Tubman’s photograph is now gone. In its place are images of Postal Service stamps that highlight “Black/White cooperation” in the secret network and that feature Tubman among abolitionists of both races.” wapo.st/4jdXL8m

What impact has DOGE's $1 limit had on how SSA staff do their job? Examples from just one local office: • Can't pay to shred documents with PII • Can't buy death certs to verify if users have died • Can't provide ASL interpreters • Running out of paper and toner www.wired.com/story/doge-o...

Make a huge mistake. Then make a false claim about how you fixed it. They did it for PEPFAR. Now Ebola. I follow this particular topic VERY closely, so here's what really happened and why this isn't true AT ALL...🧵

Another way to put this: Musk and his twerps have exposed us to pandemics, broken science, stolen all your data, endangered the U.S. payments system, threatened air traffic control, and cut off HIV medication to 20m people in order to save ::checks notes:: 2/10th of a percent of the federal budget.

Top USAID officials are trying to create a false narrative that life-saving aid has continued despite Trump’s blanket halt to foreign aid. Our @nytimes.com reporting shows the exact opposite. USAID even issued an internal email to stop applications for waivers: www.nytimes.com/2025/02/12/u...

Sheer idiocy www.science.org/content/arti...

it's not hyperbolic to say we're witnessing a coup.

I see some suggestions, in the reporting regarding the OMB impoundment order, that a mere delay in spending appropriated funds is legal. But that's not really true. The delay OMB has ordered specifically contradicts the Impoundment Control Act. A thread.
