It’s Mother’s Day where I am, as it is in many countries this 11th of May – though not the UK! – and #RecipeOfTheDay is the perfect treat for it: Strawberry Shortcakes! If you’re celebrating, I wish you joy; if this is a hard day for you, I send heartfelt love, too www.nigella.com/recipes/stra...

It's 2015. President Barack Obama has accepted a "sky palace" jumbo jet from the Qatari government, which he'll own after he leaves office. "Everybody relax," he says in an interview with the New York Times. Everyone does. The networks then televise the military parade in his honor on his birthday.

Apparently the thing that kept flying safe in America was DEI.

Read with me this summer!! K-5 students in the 14th District are invited to join my Congressional Readers Program and read at least 10 books 📚🐛 Parents can find more info here: underwood.house.gov/congressionalreaders

From Jeffrey Toobin's 2008 book THE NINE, this remains the greatest Justice Souter anecdote I can possibly share. RIP.

I absolutely love this, know the tune, and will be singing it all day.

David Souter, a New Hampshire Republican who was named to the Supreme Court by President George H.W. Bush and who over 19 years on that bench became a mainstay of the court’s shrinking liberal wing, died on Thursday at 85. nyti.ms/43pbjIQ

Weird. Rome has an American Pope and America has a Russian President.

REPUBLICAN Senator Rand Paul says he opposes the Trump/GOP plan to explode the deficit (to give tax cuts to the rich) DOGE was always a grift

Crockett: I cannot wait until voters have an opportunity to say: You took food out of my mouth. You took a roof from over my head. You are responsible for making sure that I do not have health care. I'm going to make sure you don't have a job.

FACT OF THE DAY. 8 May 1945. Victory Day in Europe (“VE Day”) was commemorated in Britain, and in many other countries throughout the world even though the Final Instrument of Unconditional Surrender was not signed by the German armed forces until just after midnight in Berlin on 9 May 1945.

I think this quote from @jasonfurman.bsky.social does a good job of explaining why the Fed will remain on hold for at least a few months: “The best thing for the Fed over the next few months is to be behind the curve, because the alternative is to risk being ahead of the wrong curve”

TODAY: We need every Senate Democrat to vote no on a crypto bill that would enable Trump to keep accepting bribes from billionaires, corporations, and foreign governments. We can block S.394 if Democrats unite in opposition, but they’re not there yet, so make sure your senators hear from you ASAP. 👇

Whenever I read @beewilson.bsky.social, beyond being illuminated and uplifted by her enquiring intelligence, I’m always so grateful for the gentle grace of her company; it feels like being held in conversation with someone clever and kind who just understands what it feels like to be a person in 1/5

Oh yes it’s a pattern of well established behavior-preying upon anyone perceived as vulnerable.

Imagine getting emails from your employer telling that you could be "more productive" someplace else, that your service and career are worthless. @adamserwer.bsky.social's "the cruelty is the point" has become almost cliche, but that's what federal science employees are enduring week after week.

That’s FOUR jets lost in just six months, $240M gone! Meanwhile, airports at home are in chaos, and Americans are scared to fly. Maybe putting a Fox & Friends weekend host and an MTV reality star in charge of national defense and transportation wasn’t the MERIT we were promised

I have never used chatgpt, largely because I enjoy organizing my thoughts and communicating them with other human beings. I'm also very underwhelmed by chatgpt's actual writing, but if it could produce a better-written piece I wouldn't want it because the point is connection, not output.

Do your job, Sean.

Eyes down, Conclave watchers! A few facts for your scorecards: - Shortest Conclave: 1503, three hours or so. - Longest Conclave: 1268, three years or so. - Last Conclave to elect someone from outside: 1378, Urban VI. - Last Pope to exhume his predecessor and put them on trial: Stephen VI, 897.

A coalition of 14 news organizations on Tuesday asked the federal judge overseeing the lawsuit of the Maryland resident who was mistakenly deported to El Salvador to unseal records of the proceedings surrounding efforts to return him to the United States.

Coloradan Trisha Calvarese is working to unseat Lauren Boebert. A longtime fierce progressive and dear friend of mine is working on this campaign, and I'm excited to see someone with a real chance to consign Boebert to the cesspit of political history.

Reporter: I was watching your face during the meeting.. what was going through your mind when the President talked about erasing the border.. Carney: I’m glad that you couldn’t tell what was going through my mind Reporter: Oh I could

The 80th anniversary of the end of the Nazi era comes at a pivotal time for Germans. The last of the survivors, liberators and perpetrators are dying, as the far right is becoming more established. "Have people learned nothing?” said Mario Candotto, 98, who survived the Dachau concentration camp.

He’s talking about fellow Americans who disagree politically.

He stood there on Jan 20 and falsely mouthed the words to protect and defend our Constitution. Asked now on Meet the Press if he thinks he needs to uphold the Constitution, he says, “I don’t know.” Translation: No. Woe to America and the utter failure of putting this man back in our Oval Office.

"I do solemnly swear that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States."

He's also the president who killed things like this. www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2025/...

Russian communities are facing a surge in crimes from both returning veterans and criminals using the war to get out of jail. But in Vladimir Putin’s new Russia, soldiers are the new heroes, and tough wartime censorship laws leave little room to criticize them.

I absolutely adore @meemalee.bsky.social’s Mandalay, so cheering at this!

Late on Wednesday afternoon, motions for summary judgment hit the docket in the blockbuster Smartmatic v. Fox News case. But the most interesting aspect of the motions wasn’t what appeared in the filings—it was what didn’t. More in @status.news: www.status.news/p/rupert-mur...
