Drawing a dragon, the most iconic beast of legend and lore, can be difficult. I've studied various animals from reptiles, birds and bats (and, of course, dinosaurs), in my attempt to create an exciting new take on this classic creature. Do you have a favorite dragon? Here's a few from years past:

I am re-reading Bram Stoker's classic, "Dracula" and thinking back on how amazing it was that I was able to render the cover for the 2008 Puffin Classics edition, with a forward by Holly Black! 🧛‍♂️

I'm drawing a lot of kids in my upcoming novel and reminded of how difficult it is for me to render children at the exact age I want them. Kiddos have proportions and anatomy that is completely different from us adults.

I had the opportunity to work with the great Denis Kitchen about a decade ago when he and his publishing partner, John Lind, created REALMS. This documentary looks to capture the eccentric brilliance of this comic legend:

I cover some foundational visual language concepts over at Creative Bloq this week: www.creativebloq.com/art/illustra...

While writing a new novel, I reread Edward Gorey’s “The Unstrung Harp”, which perfectly captures the creative process. The highs and lows and solitude of bookmaking is illuminated in brilliant, biting prose while the art is drawn in his classic gothic style. This is my fav Gorey book. What’s yours?📚

When is a story finished? I’m never fully satisfied with my final work, so I’ve plotted my next middle grade novel off-and-on for 25 years. At last, I think this story is close to completion. The pile of drafts and sketches go back in time like strata in my life. I can’t wait to share it with you.📝

Thanks Stu! I Yes, there is a piece in there from Continuum! You sir, have the sharp eyes of an owl bear.🦉

"WondLa is somewhat of a gem hidden in Apple TV’s extensive catalog". Thanks Collider! (though I wish we'd received more critical reviews to get our RT score up...) collider.com/best-shows-o...

For all you mothers out there caring, teaching and preparing our kiddos for a brave new world.💕

My mom has supported creativity and art since I can remember. Her encouragement, when I was young, set the first stones on my path in life. Happy Mother’s Day! 💕

🎉Happy Birthday to William W. Denslow, who was born on this day back in 1856.🎉 America's great fairy tale, THE WONDERFUL WIZARD OF OZ, was illustrated by Denslow back in 1900. He had worked with OZ author L. Frank Baum on previous books, including FATHER GOOSE. (Photo restored by Yours Truly)

Here's a special behind-the-scenes of the creation and release of the storybook, "STAR WARS: The Adventures of Luke Skywalker, Jedi Knight", for this May the 4th!✨🪐✨
