I think our history of civil rights still carries a lot of deep emotional resonance for Americans. Ras Baraka, son of Amiri Baraka, getting arrested at an ICE facility connects the current immigration issue to that legacy in a way that could be powerful.

I used to just stick to CA Health and Safety Code § 50053, 50052.5, 50093…kinda basic but it spoke to me. Then I got into CA Gov’t Code Section 65915, it’s so mainstream these days but I get something new out of it every time I revisit it. Lately I’ve developed a taste for 65323 and even 34176.1.

I’m so exhausted by all these conferences, webinars, and working groups that all claim to be about “innovative” solutions to the housing crisis. When apartments are illegal through most of the city and impact fees are $$$, it’s not some great mystery why more housing doesn’t get built!
