Not to pile on this random dude at all, but this is too perfect an example to pass up. It’s funny to me how so many people Problematize perfectly normal vacancy rates. 100 units in 4 towers in Chicago with 2346 units is 4% vacancy rate. People need a vacant unit to move into, folks!

Some personal news (do we still do personal news on BlueSky?): I am the Economist’s new South Asia economics correspondent, and will be based in Mumbai.

Good essay question tbf. "Could slavery have been abolished in the Southern United States without a civil war?"

The discovery that all MAGA politicians go to the same tailor but he sells off-the-peg suits for $300 feels like it explains a lot: www.wsj.com/style/fashio...

So I read this and it's completely fine. I don't know what the deal is with the snark, it's a perfectly okay and informative piece

An Afghan man who worked as a translator for the U.S. military during the war was detained by ICE after showing up for a hearing inside of a federal courthouse in San Diego, his attorney says. He fears that if he returns to Afghanistan, he would be tortured or even killed, @nbcsandiego.com reports.
