Doctors for the Environment Australia has won a Federal Court order that enables it to challenge NOPSEMA’s approval of the Scarborough Gas Project’s environment plan (EP). Read more in our media release here: www.dea.org.au/doctors_for_...

Happy World Environment Day 💚 This year’s campaign is focused on tackling plastic pollution. Plastic pollution has doubled in just 20 years. 98% of plastics come from fossil fuels - polluting our planet, clogging our oceans, and our arteries. It’s time to move on from plastics.

A harmful algal bloom has reached SA’s Coorong, killing fish, crabs & worms in a Ramsar-listed wetland. Climate change is increasing the frequency, intensity and geographic spread of algal blooms across Australia. We need climate action now to protect our precious marine life and coastlines.

Today, we are asking for your support to allow us to continue our vital work advocating for climate action to protect health. DEA is a registered charity, so all donations over $2 are tax-deductible. Make an EOFY donation here: dea.supporterhub.net.au/donations/do...

🚨 Labor is about to approve the North West Shelf carbon bomb that will release 4.3 billion tonnes over its 50-year lifespan. We cannot afford this avoidable catastrophic health decision. 📞 Call Minister Watt & ask him to put our health first by rejecting this extension (02) 6277 7320

Fossil fuels are a health hazard. It's time for the health sector to take a stand. #BreakFossilFuelInfluence Read more: climateandhealthalliance.org/press-releas...

Happy World Turtle Day 💚 Australia is incredibly lucky to be home to 6 of the world’s 7 species of marine turtles 🐢🇦🇺 - how turtley awesome is that?!

Australia is no stranger to floods & droughts, but seeing both occur simultaneously on opposite sides of the Great Dividing Range is troubling. As our planet warms, these extreme weather events will become more frequent & severe. How much more devastation do our leaders need to see before they act?

Today is the UN’s International Day for Biological Diversity, which is a perfect opportunity to both celebrate the rich and unique biodiversity in Australia, and reflect on the biodiversity crisis we have in this country and the rest of the world. 📸 Dr Brooke Ah Shay

A decision on the whether to extend Woodside's North West Shelf gas export project by another 50 years is impending. Environment Minister Murray Watt has promised to make his call by May 31. Extending this massively polluting project would be a disaster on 5 fronts:

We are a group of Australian medical professionals who advocate for climate action through political campaigning, peaceful protests, media representation, letters, petitions, presentations and events. Doctors, please join us and help us in all the work we do: www.dea.org.au/doctor_membe...

Can our new environment minister fix our broken nature laws? Previously, reform was stalled by politics and pressure from the mining lobby. New leadership brings hope- but only if politicians stop caving to fossil fuel interests. These laws must protect nature, not polluters. #auspol

Here it is, finally. The truth. In a landmark #greenwashing legal case brought by @parentsforclimate.bsky.social, #EnergyAustralia has publicly acknowledged that offsets do not undo the harms of burning fossil fuels & apologised to more than 400,000 customers of its carbon #offsetting product

Incredible & important work by @parentsforclimate.bsky.social 🌏🎉 Congratulations to everyone involved 👏 "EnergyAustralia has publicly acknowledged that offsets do not undo the harms of burning fossil fuels and apologised to more than 400,000 customers of its ‘Go Neutral’ carbon offsetting product"

Happy World Family Doctor Day 🩺 Today, we honour and thank the GPs across Australia who work tirelessly to support their patients’ mental health. We also call for stronger support for our GPs, because their well-being is just as important as the well-being of those they care for. 💚

With stronger numbers in parliament, Labor is well placed to take decisive climate action. Now is the time to stop approving new coal and gas projects and ramp up Australia's investment in renewables. Our government must put the health of the people above the interests of the fossil fuel industry.

We’re proud to be hosting a very special Q&A event screening of ‘Ocean with David Attenborough’ this Friday in Adelaide. Through spectacular sequences featuring coral reefs, kelp forests and the open ocean, Attenborough shares why a healthy ocean keeps the entire planet stable and flourishing. 🧵

Over the past 10 weeks, our members have held forums, door knocked, letterboxed, and connected with communities across the country - educating the public and candidates on how climate change is impacting our health. You’re all climate champions and we are so proud of you, thank you 💚

Just like a patient seeking a second opinion, we are asking the court to review NOPSEMA's decision. “We’re concerned we have the government regulator ticking a box on an environmental plan for a very large company. We’re the ones holding them to account and we feel compelled to do so” Read more 👇

Doctors for the Environment Australia is mounting a legal challenge against environmental approvals for Woodside's multi-billion Scarborough project. Another from me this morning, this time in @reneweconomy.com.au

We’re so proud of our team of volunteer doctors & medical students who stood together to ask all federal election candidates to protect Australians' health from worsening climate change. It's time that our leaders Put Our Health First.

DEA v NOPSEMA & Woodside: We are medical doctors concerned about the detrimental effects of climate change on human health. The decision to approve Woodside’s Scarborough Project will unleash a major new source of atmospheric carbon dioxide, the key driver of climate change. (1/2)

Extreme heat kills more Australians than any other climate disaster. Our Executive Director, Dr Kate Wylie, warns: “We need to expect that on hot days we’ll see more heart attacks, more mental health illness, more domestic violence – and we need to plan for it." Read more 👇

Climate change is a serious threat to Australia’s live music industry. With 85% of festivalgoers affected by floods, storms, heatwaves or the threat of bushfires in the past 12 months. We need to stop underestimating the impacts of climate change, and demand climate action now.

Climate change has not been discussed enough this election. Before you vote this weekend, make sure you are voting for a government that is going to put our health first. Find out more about majorly parties climate change policies here 👇

As organisations of doctors and humanitarian workers, both DEA and MSF are witnessing how climate change affects human health. Together we have published an open letter to all federal election candidates, calling for climate action to protect human health. Read about it in the @mja.com.au InSight 👇
