I made a tiny tune in #desmos calculator! @desmos.com

If you have ever felt that 200cc in Mario Kart 8/Deluxe is much faster than it should be, your suspicions are correct. Based on the formula followed by the other engine classes, the speed the game pretends is 200cc is actually 415cc instead.

Many of us who read Project 2025 have been saying from the start that The Regime has a unifying goal of destroying US scientific infrastructure and causing the collapse of Universities. We were called “hysterical”. www.nytimes.com/interactive/...

Was there any disclaimer that it was written using AI? Is that required if journalists? bsky.app/profile/jaso...

I spoke to the person who AI-generated the Chicago Sun-Times reading list. Says he's very embarrassed. This was part of a generic package inserted into newspapers and other publications, so likely to run elsewhere. He didn't know it'd be in Chicago Sun-Times www.404media.co/chicago-sun-...

At least the flat-earthers aren't in a position to kill people with their ideological idiocy

HELP? Does anyone have (or know of) a unit/module for high school math that teaches students how LLMs work while also teaching the relevant math (encoding, matrix operations, probability, etc)? cc: @jedediyah.com @danshuster.bsky.social @dandersod.recursiveprocess.com @comapmath.bsky.social

6:01am and already in tears.

Californians, please take a moment to support the funding of the University of California in our state budget! And share with others. Parents of kids in CA should be making their voices heard on this! #EduSky #ITeachMath #AcademicSky

QUESTION! High school math teachers, how many days (60 min day) would be reasonable for a curriculum to be paced for in your setting? (Like, how many days would you ACTUALLY have after all mandated testing, assemblies, etc) #iteachmath #mtbos

🔑🚪It’s time to escape! Check out the newest Desmos escape room! To play yourself: student.desmos.com/join/3jjxj9 (no need to log in but it will save your progress if you do) Here’s the teacher link to run it with a class: teacher.desmos.com/activitybuil... Have fun!

So I've been looking more carefully at HS math curricula these days. One popular 9th grade option is paced for 143 days, NOT including any of the 'optional' lessons or any of the cooler 'extras' they have. Another is paced for 172 days! That's just not realistic.

Hi @ottensam.bsky.social ! Do you have any writing on your team’s 1) use of and 2) findings about using “incremental PD” with teachers?

Math Ed is lucky to have @mathematize4all.bsky.social in our field. She is knowledgeable and thoughtful in her critique of the ‘Science of Math’ claims. And, importantly, points to the central issue of what kind(s) of math proficiency are we talking about? podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/m...

Hi! In July I'm once again running a program for K-12 math teachers called "21st century mathematics". Its goal is to help teachers to connect math they teach with some math that has been discovered in the 21st century. Pass it along! Info+register: justinlanier.org/21st-century...

Even people who don't regard themselves as conservative may be inadvertently training their children (or students) not to question the status quo. From the archives: "How to Prevent Social Change: A Handy Guide for Educators and Parents": www.alfiekohn.org/blogs/prevent/

Following up on yesterday's #MathsToday post, here is the next lesson. This time, we are building percent change functions to model CO2 emissions, sinks, and net. Hope you can use it! #iteachmath #mtbos #MaththatMatters Slides: docs.google.com/presentation... Task: docs.google.com/document/d/1...

I spent way too long making this lesson on climate change and exponential decay. So, hopefully someone out there can use it. #MaththatMatters #iteachmath #mathstoday #mtbos Slides: docs.google.com/presentation... Task: docs.google.com/document/d/1...
