Yet. She hasn’t told her class yet.

Written in language that I can understand too.
In my medical training we were taught to look at the patient in front of us, with little attention to the social determinants of health & impact of policy & politics
I am always fascinated reading about Germany 🇩🇪 - just bought this West German vase 😆

I was surprised to see even “palliative care” has a wikipedia page since nobody seems to know what it is or what it involves.
Even other healthcare professionals think I am just there to hold hands with people who are dying (I do do that as well sometimes, but there is much more to it obviously!)

I do feel despair, helplessness and a moral distress when I see bad things at work that I can’t change on an individual level
- but I hope contributing my little bits of research help build on wider pieces of upstream work that might make things even a little better

I think as a doctor I still have plenty to offer social sciences,
I am a human before I am a doctor
A human seeing unfair suffering
I think some people would prefer me to tinker with tablets instead

Working in a very socioeconomically deprived area and wanting my patients to receive fairer care- people still said “you can’t change that. Waste of a PhD.”, but I disagree

The things is,
I’ll do all this but I still am shy to say I’ve done some #research on a topic
Meanwhile, every day people tell me they’ve “done their research”,
And by this they mean they’ve googled something,
have read the Wikipedia page
And feel they are now an expert & won’t hear otherwise 😑

You’re not the first person to mention to me recently that they’ve offered to donate blood but then can’t get an appointment!

However, this book 📕 gives case studies & explains how health #inequalities have previously been reduced through policies,it’s not impossible. We must believe that things can get better!
Available to read 🆓 online, but I am 40 so I am excited to be reading a real #book 📚😄

😂 Microsoft Word refuses to let me type “carer” and insists it must be “career”, annoying when you type the word carer constantly 🤪

I do really hate saying no
But the more I say yes to,
then the more I get asked to do.
If its not my job and its eating into my own time then I need to be more selective and do the things that matter most to me.
I can’t be everywhere, doing everything

Thanks, we’ve been twice already, last time 2024.
My girlfriend’s currently got a 700 day Duolingo streak for Japanese 🇯🇵 & is taking on the language.
I do multiple European languages for us, don’t think I can squeeze anymore languages into my brain 😆 I’ll do organisation & directions…. 🗺️

Perhaps we could start with an NHS computer that doesn’t take 40 minutes to turn on? Or a printer that works?

But can you imagine if I assumed it the opposite way and had
walked in naked & everyone else had clothes on?? 🤪
At the onsens in Japan they give you specific instructions of what to do so that there is no confusion .
Clothes off, wash, enter naked, tiny cloth to cover the “essentials” if you wish
