Other actions are probably more stimulating (e.g. look at #Trumputin's rhetoric), but this could be a contributing factor. Which makes it part of the plan.

Worth a try?

"Statistics from early June, previously reported on by the Guardian, demonstrated an 807% increase in arrests of people without criminal histories since before Donald Trump’s second inauguration this January." www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025...

This is in regards to the falsehood—pushed by Koch-funded FAI and echoed by Peter Thiel, much of Silicon Valley, and Derek Thompson—that we are in a period of science stagnation. It’s totally wrong and it is being used to destroy NIH to privatize government.

“Americans deserve to know if Big Oil paid for these Republicans in Congress to carve out tax breaks just for them.” Democratic lawmakers led by Sen. Warren are pressing two energy companies about their efforts to “win a $1.1 billion tax loophole” in Trump’s so-called One Big Beautiful Bill.

I find it very hard to believe that people in the South, even FL, will fail to note this and fail to hold a grudge. But, I could be mistaken and they could blame the "Green New Deal" and trans athletes.

The Supreme Court ruled 6-3 in the case of Mahmoud v Taylor involving a group of parents who wanted to opt out of lessons involving LGBTQ+ books. The decision paves the way for future discrimination and undermines our country's secular education system. www.advocate.com/news/scotus-...

"Call the bluff" is a fantastic, fantastic message (Seriously: everything hinges on people believing this bluff)

Repeating, in case anyone can persuade Americans in rural areas (especially, but not exclusively) that having a hospital near-ish is in their interest.

Lander: "It's just gross, racist bigotry. Meanwhile he's running an optimistic, upbeat campaign for a NY where everybody belongs, and I feel proud as the highest-ranking Jewish elected official in NYC to be supporting somebody who would be the first Muslim mayor—what could be more NYC than that?"

"NORTHCOM made no effort to suggest—and it is frankly implausible—that protests were planned against the drug raid in Coachella Valley. The DEA’s statement similarly made no mention of protest activity. The deployment thus appears to be unauthorized even under the presidential memorandum."

one of the things that's so invigorating about Mamdani's win is how upset the right seems to be. it shouldn't matter to them what flavor of Democrat runs New York City, but they're unnerved because they know that his style of progressive populism has broad appeal.

“The soft power suicide of the U.S. will be incomprehensible to future historians who will be dumbfounded in their attempts to explain why the global leader voluntarily wrecked one of its greatest national assets...” www.nytimes.com/2025/06/24/b...

If the volunteers keep door knocking, I think that Adams, and the fire hose of money he will raise, can be defeated.

This is not my favorite Senator, and yet, he keeps hammering a message I think needs repetition. Bravo! If only some R would listen to him.

Robert F Kennedy Jr is not a vaccine skeptic. Reporters and editors who’ve decided it’s somehow more fair to call him one instead of the anti-vaccine activist and lawyer he is should stop mischaracterizing him so… in the pursuit of accuracy.

Socialism is what they called public power. Socialism is what they called social security.    Socialism is what they called the growth of free and independent labor organizations.   Socialism is their name for almost anything that helps all the people. —Harry Truman, 1952

Certainly close enough to the real truth!

The American Academy of Pediatricians bluntly telling us the current CDC can't be trusted, and of course they are absolutely correct publications.aap.org/aapnews/news...

Record Mediterranean Sea #heatwave intensifying at 6C (10F) + above normal! It’s not coincidence, it’s climate change. Research shows a huge increase since the 1980s. In fact, the long-term warming trend explains over 90% of the increase in MHW frequency, intensity, and duration. #EU #Europe

"Randi Weingarten and Lee Saunders quit the Democratic National Committee, saying it isn’t doing enough to “open the gates” and win back the support of working-class voters." www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025...

This is what the right truly fears

I think that this needs to be repeated over and over: rural hospitals are in a tough spot, and gutting Medicaid will make it worse, fast. There will be closures, and in "bright red" areas!

Letitia James: Andrew Cuomo specifically requested that my office do an investigation. Unfortunately, he didn't like the results. I guess he thought I was elected to go along with his politics. Those 13 women who reported allegations, it's something I can't forget.

I am so glad that @bradlander.bsky.social is part of this political moment. At a time when demagogues in both parties want us at each other's throat, his election-night declaration is, “We are not going to let anyone divide Muslim New Yorkers and Jewish New Yorkers.” May we make it so.

A Muslim son of immigrants might become mayor of NYC in part because he cross endorsed and supported a Jewish candidate and Black candidate, and vice versa. It's a beautiful American story for the rest of us. A nightmare for all the right people ;) It's so New York.

"Mamdani voters carried upper and lower Manhattan, and parts of Brooklyn such as Williamsburg. Cuomo carried wealthier areas such as the Upper East Side and Upper West Side of Manhattan and the outer edges of Brooklyn and Queens." www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025...

Amber Thurman. Candi Miller. Josseli Barnica. Nevaeh Crain. Porsha Ngumezi. On the third anniversary of the overturning of Roe v. Wade, revisit our reporting about the women who died after not receiving timely medical care in states with strict abortion bans:

I can see no chance I'd voluntarily wear a "health tracking" device, because I don't trust any promises about the use of my data in making decisions about me. There's a difference between taking occasional tests and continuous monitoring, and in this atmosphere, I'm not going to risk the latter.

I still don't understand why the fuck we're doing any of this to NSF

Although the US has a long history of democratic governance, it's not a mature democracy. It folds at the first attempt of authoritarian takeover. Political resistance both by parliament or in civil society is inadequate if not to say week and inconsequential. Open Society is limited to consumerism.

Wow!

Look, it’s true that kids will have fewer toys this holiday season, but at least there’s a whole bunch of highly enriched uranium in Iran that’s unaccounted for. Wait.

This is why I have absolutely zero tolerance for anyone supporting the sudden execution of USAID by Elon Musk:

"We need to correct a false narrative that the climate threat is under control. These enormous risks are potentially catastrophic. They would undo the connections between human and ecological systems that form the basis of all of our civilisation."

I didn’t have the Supreme Court destroying the authority of federal district courts on my bingo card. But in retrospect that’s perhaps where all this shadow docket decision-making was going all along. Really scary stuff.

Because it's so true

Lasting damage is what RFK Jr. is aiming for, and I think he's on course.

Sums it up pretty well.

“But now, we essentially have no pandemic preparedness.” www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025...

This assessment is about to be heavily politicized, as we see in the story below.

I'd be interested in contrasting views; I see a lot of traction for the idea that Roberts is historically the worst CJSCOTUS, beating Roger Taney. Open to discussion.

"Border crossings are at historic lows. Fans are avoiding an international soccer tournament featuring the world’s biggest clubs and global superstars, in fear of Ice agents. Taco truck workers are being arrested. Some farms are so short on field hands that crops are rotting in the sun."

"An initial classified US assessment of Donald Trump’s strikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities over the weekend says they did not destroy two of the sites and likely only set back the nuclear program by a few months, according to two people familiar with the report." www.theguardian.com/world/2025/j...

Mr. Kennedy, who said he is not going to take away anyone's vaccines, has made it impossible to get COVID-19 vaccines in pregnancy. In other words, he lied. www.cnn.com/2025/06/12/h...

A new study points out success stories — and potential obstacles — to bringing vaccines to the world's children.

Sure, it's just snark and won't change any minds. I'm doing it for the cheap dopamine rush, okay?

I don't run any software from any "tech giant," but it doesn't mean that you can easily bypass them in your life and work. This certainly should boost Protonmail, from Switzerland.
