I wouldn't cite Reconstruction as an example of the USA successfully recovering from a disaster.

The @xkcd.com feed seems to be broken. Sigh.

Gosh, it'd be awful if anyone abused america250.org and ordered tickets they had no intention of using! Why, it might even remind DJT of some of his past political rallies!

Football fans who cleverly refer to Wrexham AFC as "Disney FC" probably don't realize that Disney was actually the first owner of the NHL's Anaheim (MIghty) Ducks team. That team didn't win a championship until after Disney sold them, more than a decade later. Yes, the corporation, not the family.

lol mtg is fighting with a computer about god

I know it’s my job to inspect this cardboard box. I don’t always feel excited about the job, but the work matters

I'm depressed about everything pretty much continually (and I am NOT asking for your advice on dealing with it, just to be absolutely clear) but I'm also just so fucking ... annoyed, at the irritating stupidity of it all. It's like being ruled by a giant, stupid, buzzing mosquito.

I'd like to see a .pptx on the results of the question.

You wouldn't think #WorldGothDay would be bright and sunny in the Pacific Northwest, but 2025 can't get anything right, can it?

The cost-effective thing to do would be to fly it to Davis-Monthan in Tucson so it can be maintained efficiently.

i think it should be a bigger story that the president held a meeting with a foreign head of state where he ranted about the most gutter white supremacist propaganda you can find on the internet

I just got an e-mail from the "physical security" team at my customer about an explosion at a street address "less than a mile away." I can't find that address within a mile of the customer HQ, and I haven't ever been there anyway. They should know who's at that site. Spoiler: it's never me.

Vancouver council is debating a giant permanent sign that says "VANCOUVER", and staff say an issue is putting the sign in a place that won't interfere with film shoots. In other words, a giant "VANCOUVER" sign could interfere with vancouver's lucrative business of pretending to be any other city

I don't know about anyone else but I am finding it somewhat challenging to maintain the sunny, good-natured optimism and cheerful attitude for which I am so widely renowned.

"67.9 lbs"? Seriously? Why not just say "68 lbs" or even "70 lbs" if you're publicizing a dog? Just because you can measure something to a level of precision such as tenths of a pound doesn't mean you have to use that much precision if it's not meaningful.

If you know someone who doesn’t understand this, make them understand.

You'd think law enforcement would investigate a fatal shooting, but the article doesn't mention any such investigation.

Ow theonion.com/ow/

I’m convinced. Mandatory daily prostate exams for all presidents until at least 2028.

Sorry, I speak at an appropriate pace and am comfortable giving a presentation that I've had time to prepare. There's enough structure in giving a presentation for me to be comfortable. Ask me to give a presentation on why the 737 is a poor choice to use as an example of airplanes' speed!

the French didn't "give" us the Statue of Liberty. It was built with $250,000 of funds raised privately in France and $300,000 of funds raised privately in the United States.

say it again: 4 million people work in higher ed, the largest employer in 10 states, second largest employer in 10 more, and in 60 of the 100 biggest cities ROI for NIH and NSF for local economies is conservatively 4x, often close to 10x demolishing higher education is economic sabotage

Derek! Maximum Derek! #ifkyk

Wow. Just, wow. apnews.com/article/fres...

8 GB from Chile to Palo Alto in seven seconds is impressive almost to the point of being unbelievable. It becomes 8 GB in 47 seconds if you assume they start transmitting before the image is complete, but even so, yikes!

Forbes: The Qataris have been trying to get rid of that ostentatious luxury jet for five years, but no one would buy it. It costs too much to fly, costs more to maintain, and needs too big a landing strip. They had another one they unloaded on Turkey. Delicious. www.forbes.com/sites/jeremy...

I was slow to learn this, but it sank in today: (most?) reading glasses, unlike prescription glasses, aren't meant to be durable, apparently. I'll have to get used to buying some regularly or else find a source of ones that are meant to endure.

It's a little early for that in northern Oregon, but I'm glad it's happening.

I'm so old, I remember when the "goat," was the player who dropped the pass that would have sent the game into overtime or the guy who missed both free throws when a single one would have tied the game. "Greatest of all time," not in my book. Also, get those kids off my lawn!

That 747 that Qatar is giving Trump is one that Qatar replaced with an Airbus that's more efficient or glitzier, right?

Now I want a t-shirt that says: Days Since Jorts Bit This Shirt: 0

Bezos is destroying the Post faster than TFG is destroying the Federal government!

Oh. Sigh....
