Now watching: Prophesy (1979) It’s labeled as Prophesy The Monster Movie This is a Paramount gatefold VHS release so it’s likely a first edition from ‘80 or ‘81. Paramount changed the inside design at some point, but it’s unclear which was first. The other one doesn’t have the solid blue part.

This morning I drove 80 miles to visit a thrift store that was supposed to have VHS tapes. It was a goldmine! Rest assured I will have plenty of weird and scary tapes to show you for a long time to come. 9 1/2 Ninjas “The first erotic martial arts action comedy!”

This is one of the most iconic VCRs, even though it’s not flashy or rare. You probably remember seeing one. It’s a Panasonic Omnivision “Blue Line”. Yes, it has a nickname. Its reputation is for dependability. There’s no special engineering feat inside, it just happens to not have any big flaws.

Now watching Vampires: Los Muertos (2092) Starring Jon Bon Jovi and Diego Luna!

Today I’m watching K-9 (1989) They don’t make movies like this anymore.

Every photo of RFKJr looks like that frame in the horror movie when they've just replaced the actor with the practical effects dummy that is about to have its head explode, or face melt, or turn into The Thing

I got curious about the etymology of the word hypochondria and looked it up. Hypo means under, and khondros meaning cartilage. It’s referring to the floating ribs under which are the organs that were thought to produce the humor melancholy. So much for not making up kooky medical stuff.

Hurts So Good comes on the car radio. After a minute I say “More like John Cougar Mellen-kink.” My wife refusing to acknowledge me and making this exact face. *true story*

Idea for found footage movie where they never find the footage, so there's no need to spend any money making the movie and it DEFINITELY makes its budget back and then some.

OK, I’ve never seen this. Schwarzenegger vs Satan or something like that. End of Days (1999)

Checking out my new 1985 Mitsubishi VCR. I think this must be the biggest button I’ve ever seen on any kind of media player.

Now watching Schizoid (1980) It’s an early slasher from Golan & Globus that leans a little toward giallo; lots of atmosphere and a whodunnit/procedural element.

Now watching: The Brood (1979)

Pressing play on Supernova (2000) James Spader only does artsy-weird or horny movies, but this looks pretty mainstream. I don’t know what to expect.

After I watched I Dismember Mama, and noticed the same writer had done Night of the Juggler, I remembered where I could get another of his movies for $1. The Scalphunters (1968)

Time to watch The Fly (1986) This is a mild curiosity. CBS Fox stopped using the Hi-Fi “red label” by about ‘88, but this tape has 1990 copyright label, and an insert card from that era. I think they must have been using up some unsold stock they had lying around.

Next up: Hangman’s Curse (2003) This is supposed to be a Christian horror movie, which is not something you see every day.

This above all: to thine own self be true, And it must follow, as the night the day, Thou canst not then be false to any man.
