Found my favourite ever paragraph in a novel...

Thought for the day.

In the days of lovely Twitter I often put out a call for help with research in writing my books. So here goes, Bluskiers. I'm looking for a social worker (adoption/fostering preferably) and a probation officer who worked between 2008 and 2012, the more senior the better. Please share :)

An invaluable visual aid for Criminal lawyers teaching R v Dudley and Stephens 😆

Please can we take a moment to marvel at what a team of 9-10 year olds can do in 45 minutes when given some Lego & an iPad? Video courtesy of one of our brilliant #SchoolTasking finalist teams, the Preppy Kids, who were working with Lancaster University 👏 See you at the Champion of Champions! 🏆

Absolutely cooked.

I've been quiet across social media because this is the busiest time of the year for @schooltasking.bsky.social. All 7 Regional Finals across the UK & Ireland have now taken place & we're busy preparing for the Champion of Champions next month 🏆 Very much enjoying fleetingly staying still...

Our second struggling university today is Nottingham, where the job cuts stretch as far ahead as the eye can see. Colleagues have just voted for strike action if compulsory redundancies aren't ruled out. Just another miserable day in British Higher Education. www.nottinghampost.com/news/notting...

The Scottish Highlands are stunningly beautiful, I cannot wait to head back there when time allows it. This is the River Spey at Laggan, the photo was taken a few years ago, using 6stop ND filter. Have a great evening, morning, night #bluesky friends. #photography #scotland

What this tells you is that the Higher Education Minister knows there's going to be an irradiated crater where our universities used to be pretty soon. She's looking for someone else to blame. www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2025/05...

I think about this comic at least once a week

The CLEO annual conference, on the theme of Showcasing and Collaborating, will take place at Liverpool Law Clinic on 5 September and is now open for booking (via Eventbrite). The related call for papers is also open and the deadline is 16 June. www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/cleo-annua...

@adamwagner1.bsky.social - really lovely to meet you today, and congratulations on the Pro Bono Barrister of the Year Award 👏

Or to put it another way, overseas students now subsidise the cost of teaching each UK undergraduate by an average of £2,500 each. Take them away and you've got an absolutely existential crisis for universities. www.prospectmagazine.co.uk/politics/pol...

05:30 this morning; Upper Loch Torridon.

100% this.

New #SchoolTasking article in the Journal of Further & Higher Education is now available open access. It discusses why early intervention is so important in outreach (at a time when many universities are moving in the opposite direction) & why gameful design has been key to the project's success.

Last light at Elgol #scotland

"Exposure to university students & staff provides primary-aged learners with positive role models & a glimpse into academic life, demystifying HE. For students from underrepresented backgrounds, these early interactions can help cultivate a sense of belonging & a vision of HE as an attainable path."

It's been a while since we've woken up to a UK political bin fire, as opposed to a US one, but here we are.

*outwith 😉

Just in the interest of balance & not only focusing on the things we do win, there were 3 shortlisted projects for this prize & School Tasking was the only one that didn't win... 🤣
