He is right. I'm sick of seeing uncritical reporting at every level, but especially the local level where so much thoughtful journalism still exists. Why go into journalism and media production if you aren't using any tools of critical analysis?

1/ The day after the Antioch High shooting, Nashville police arrested a 12-year-old for posting a concerning screenshot on Instagram. His school was supposed to figure out if it was a valid threat. Instead, the school expelled him with no further investigation.

AHA executive director @jgrossman.bsky.social appeared on CNN on Friday, May 24, where he spoke about the recent cancelation of NEH grants and funding. The cuts, he emphasized, were made by DOGE, not NEH staff: “Nobody was involved who actually knew what they were talking about.” 🗃️

Who decides what respect looks like? Will racism or the response to racism be considered the disrespect?

Harvard correctly understands that it’s in a fight for its life and there is no appeasement that will save it. I wish a lot more institutions understood this.

This matters because dim-hearted policymakers WILL use direwolves as the reason we don't have to worry about endangered species- we'll just resurrect 'em!

NSF Physics was cut by 85%, basically wiping out most of its capacity for supporting research. NSF Astronomy was cut by 53% Undergrad education was cut by 71% and research on learning by 79% Graduate education was cut by 100% to ZERO. #GiftLink ⚛️🔭 www.nytimes.com/interactive/...

Not trying to be c*nty, as the kids say, but I'm finding that I can't use AI to help with most of my job because I need it to be precise and correct. I'm decent at prompting but it takes me longer to instruct and check the AI than it does to just use my brain and old-fashioned research skills.

Hey y'all. Quick weird inquiry for my Academic friends. If you have two minutes, can you ping me about this question? Have you at any point in the last ~3 months been told to pause submissions to the NSF because of indirect cuts? (Yes/No and your Uni in my DMs would be rad).

In 2020 the former president said we should not all have access to the kind of medical care he now relies on as his health declines. That position helped to soften us up for the extreme medicare cuts on the table today. Either we ensure everyone gets care, or nearly no one will.

The Human Genome Project cost taxpayers $3 Billion. Two decades on, it has generated a staggering return on investment of $1 Trillion, with benefits in medicine, agriculture, energy, the environment, & more. If you want to boost the economy, funding science is one of the best things you could do.

I think it’s kind of interesting that so many cultural and political elites decided “learning loss” from remote schooling during a pandemic was so severe it was worth ignoring medical safety, while actual learning loss from AI is pervasive and growing and they all want to impose more of it on us.
