Nigel Farage is to give up his £73,000 EU pension! Sorry - my mistake - he just wants to stop other people having a decent pension.

One of the most bizarre responses to leaving the EU going badly… is to deny that it’s actually happened. If you open a door, expecting a unicorn to be behind it… and there’s no unicorn… then the oddest response is to state that you’ve not yet opened the door.

Wake-up call… Lincolnshire has suffered some of the worst flooding in its history in recent years Lincolnshire’s newly elected Reform council has abolished the flooding committee This is who they are Please wake up to this. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

FUN FACT: Since 2019, Nigel Farage's Reform has taken more than £2.3 MILLION from oil and gas interests - making up an astonishing 92% of the party's donations. Reform are NOT for ordinary people. They're in the pockets of the big oil lobby.

She moves very fast

“But apart from that, Mrs Lincoln, how did you enjoy the play?”

Word of the day is ‘bugiard’ (17th century): one who distorts the truth beyond all recognition to fit their own agenda.

Nigel Farage thinks it's OK for him to earn £571,585 in six months from 'second jobs', but tells Laura Kuenssberg that public sector staff should not be allowed to work from home. #BBCLauraK

Celebrity antiques roadshow - as with death and taxes it is inevitable that something fragile will get broken before it gets to auction. Buy a bit of glass - no chance it will get there in one piece. How does a show about antiques not know how to transport antiques?

Word of the Day is ‘quockerwodger’ (19th century): a puppet individual whose strings are pulled entirely by someone else.

Still internalising the Vance Munich speech. A sitting Vice President goes to Europe, barely says a word about the despotic murderous regime which has invaded its neighbour, and instead lectures his allies about freedom of speech. It’d be funny if it weren’t so serious.

🧵"So this is how liberty dies..." Trump’s first 3 weeks have been a relentless flood of actions. It's incredibly hard to keep up. I’ve gone through 69 actions & mapped out the pattern - showing how they fall within 5 broad domains consistent with authoritarian states 1/9

A quick look on the racism site shows that Shadow Justice Secretary Robert Jenrick is apparently outraged at the delays in the criminal justice system. Y’know, the ones caused by the policies that he consistently supported. The ones that he was absolutely fine with when he was in government.

Malala Yousafzai, "Recognise the Taliban regime as perpetrators of gender apartheid.. Do not legitimise them" Azadeh Moshiri, "Malala Yousafzai was shot by the Taleban because she spoke out about girls education.. Now Muslim leaders and scholars are doing the same"

The Conservative party is now using the grooming gangs scandal to raise money for itself. A reminder that Kemi Badenoch's spokesman admitted yesterday that she hasn't even bothered to speak to any of the victims, and doesn't see the need to.

That's a puzzle ... When they say they care so much ...

I see Nigel Farage is making vast sums flogging a dubious tax avoidance scheme. Those who actually love their country pay their taxes. They understand that without taxes we don't have schools and hospitals and the police. They certainly don't use their status as an MP to encourage tax avoidance.

Journalist who broke grooming gang story sets record straight: "I want to put the record straight on this," Norfolk said. "It was Starmer who changed the rules to make more prosecutions possible. That happened and there was a huge increase in convictions."

Or to put it another way, bill to protect children voted through, despite Tory attempt to wreck it. Good old BBC.

The Tories did NOT implement recommendations of the Prof Jay report into child sexual abuse Whitehall estimated compensation costs at £5-10 billion! Badenoch was Children's and then Women & Equalities Minister. DIDN'T mention "grooming gangs" in House of Commons once in all her 8 years as an MP!!

I mean it’s sort of amazing that the incoming US President has basically said he’s going to declare war on Denmark, annex Canada and rename bits of the globe to his liking and broadcast news is just rolling with it like he’s delivered a sombre and thoughtful policy announcement. Absolute insanity.

In other news, Nigel Farage didn't bother to turn up to the debate on grooming gangs in the House of Commons just now

IMPORTANT - We built EveryDoctor as a doctor-led organisation specifically so that we could avoid being accused of "ideology" when we hold politicians to account. We are doctors, and we base our fundamental aims in science and evidence. We were deeply disappointed to see Labour announce yesterday..

Our traditional way of viewing politics no longer reflects reality. To safeguard our democracy we need to update our thinking | Mark Thomas

🔥 Well said, Ed Davey -

The BBC needs to have a debate about whether Musk's outbursts should keep leading the news. This isn't about censoring or suppressing his views; it's about whether to amplify them. Most Brits aren't on X, they don't follow Musk & not every raving from a foreign plutocrat should set the news agenda

Suella Braverman has "seen the wall on the land border between Italy and Turkey..." Gosh I think she's been visited by more right wing fairies Minor detail - Italy and Turkey don't have a land border!!! God these right wingers are doing my head in It's like debating with stroppy 5 year olds

Operation ‘cover my ass’ by Rupert Lowe is in full flow, even getting the celebrity columnist Dan ‘Be Kind’ Wootton to interview him. The MP that told Gt Yarmouth to ‘ignore the scaremongering’ is suddenly concerned that the cargo may have been dangerous…

BREAKING: Water companies are hiking your water bills by 36% so you have the privilege of paying their fines for providing you with a substandard service. Isn't privatisation brilliant? x

Gisele Pelicot should named as the Time person of the year. For bravely waiving her anonymity in one of the most horrific rape cases the world has seen, to take a stand for survivors and shame the perpetrators. Instead they’re featuring Trump, a rapist, for the second time. Obviously.

If you didn't catch my piece about my family Christmases it is still available at Yorkshire Bylines. Best read with a slice of Christmas cake (with Wensleydale cheese of course) and a glass of something nice.

"We are not a party for the rich" says Farage, a multimillionaire former stockbroker and friend of the world's richest man, as he recieved £1m from the new billionaire chariman of Reform, 4/5 of whose MPs are multimillionaire former stockbrokers and bankers. www.theguardian.com/politics/liv...

When they talk about privatizing Veterans’ care and Medicare, they mean allowing companies to provide healthcare for a profit. But how do companies make those profits? By *denying* care to many who need it. Don’t get fooled by the “privatization” label. It means “for profit” and YOU are the cost.

Banter is like sex. It is a two way process based on mutual respect and understanding. If you're doing it on your own, what you are is a wanker

Meanwhile on X… Isabel Oakeshott appears to have forgotten that she’s supposed to represent ordinary folk and completely outed herself as the impossible snob that she is.

Reform UK leader Nigel Farage says “We need to leave the ECHR so we can deport people that come illegally & take back control of our borders & that’s what the public wants” Share if you disagree with his populist boll**** the UK should join Russia & Belarus outside the ECHR youtu.be/iSTN-h8NoyY

Etymology of the day is ‘jargon’, from the Old French ‘jargoun’, meaning the ‘chattering of birds’.

If they are giving food to people who have been paying nearly £20,000 per year per child, they better make sure it comes from Fortnum & Masons.

“Privatisation promised efficiency but led to declining services and higher costs. No wonder the public now favours renationalisation”

Has my doctor's surgery learned NOTHING from Dirty Dancing?!

TERMINALLY ILL ADULTS (END OF LIFE) BILL SECOND READING AYES: 330 NOES: 275 Maj: 55 It passes- with a significant majority. Huge but somber moment in the chamber, the first time the Commons has voted for assisted dying. But there’s a long parliamentary passage to go.

The moon disguised as Saturn

I am stopped in my tracks by a dress. A dress that vibrates with giddy joy, laughs loudly after too many cocktails, calls out from within a cool, blue-grey shop front: Look at me.

Nigel Farage loves open borders - for the super rich youtu.be/SA8T29zWNCw?...

Morning! It might look like a pointless pic of a cup of coffee to you but to me it’s the rocket and warmth I need this morning!!
