Also please enjoy this truly wonderful image of a surgeon (and some assistants) treating the dislocation of the spine (ÖNB Cod. Ser. n. 2641, fol. 76v)

Note that this is specifically NOT about Kilmar Abrego Garcia. This is about a DIFFERENT guy, a 19-year-old accused of being part of Tren de Aragua and sent to CECOT under the Alien Enemies Act in violation of a separate court order.

Should we make sure he knows about fire season

@wearehighered.bsky.social Right on.

Genuinely thought this was the Onion

What happened?

My FIL told us that he and his retirement community (who are mostly over 80yo and require walkers or wheelchairs) were out protesting with signs that said "Save Our Social Security". I'm proud of them, but this is such sad state of affairs.

Isn't ai great?

It’s not foolproof, but as a rule of thumb I’m skeptical of any “public intellectual” who does more photo shoots than is necessary for a dust jacket flap.

You’ve seen how fast AI advanced in just the last year. Now imagine where it’ll be in a decade. Republicans’ budget bill says states can’t regulate AI for 10 YEARS. Scary.

My take on Elon Musk and his plan to leave government. www.economist.com/united-state... With a mini scoop at the end - the workers going back into the United States Institute of Peace offices found a whole bunch of weed apparently thrown away by the DOGE staffers who had been hanging out there

In response to concerns about Medicaid cuts, Republican Senators are now openly saying “we’re all going to die.” The Big Ugly Bill is now in the Senate’s hands. We’re watching.

Exclusive: FEMA staff confused after head said he was unaware of US hurricane season, sources say reut.rs/3SxBvuL

Just saw a dude wearing green-pinstriped seersucker pants with a pistachio sport coat in what appeared to be either linen or a silk-linen blend and was heartened by this evidence that not everyone has given up.

<Mirya laughs> I've been joking for weeks about how excited I am that this administration has cancelled hurricane season <Mirya starts crying>

Stanley Fischer— so many contributions but I want to highlight. His speech on need for an international lender of resort which argued for IMF to play that role. Over time as $-funding has become more important, CB swap lines led by the Fed mimic part of that role

Virginia is the birthplace of American agriculture, which is still the number one private industry in the Commonwealth. Today, I joined Henricopolis, state legislators and Henrico farmers for a roundtable discussion on how local, state and federal governments can partner to help our farmers thrive.

(Reuters) - Staff of the Federal Emergency Management Agency were left baffled on Monday after the head of the U.S. disaster agency said during a briefing that he had not been aware the country has a hurricane season, according to four sources .. @reuters.com www.reuters.com/world/us/fem...

Just wait until he hears about duck season and wabbit season

What a relief we've done away with DEI and are now assigning government posts purely based on merit.

Good Night World

Put in the head position of FEMA in May. With no disaster relief experience.

Lol just heard the NPR story about the DOGE guy who lost his job when he said he was surprised at how hard it was to find inefficiencies in the federal govt because he came from Silicon Valley where companies always have lots of people sitting around doing nothing

The head of FEMA reportedly said during a briefing that he wasn't aware the U.S. had a hurricane season, leaving staffers "baffled" and "confused"

JFC. Also, this: “Before joining FEMA, he was assistant secretary at DHS' office for countering weapons of mass destruction, which he has told staff he will continue to lead.” Huh?!

there is too much news

15 years ago, when I was still on FB, I asked my friends to name my blogging site which would talk about law + immigration politics. My MFA friend came up with "Unlawful Entries". I froze, then mailed her the big pound cake. She was astounded that it held up well under USPS shipping.

“the US secretary of homeland security, Kristi Noem, urged Polish voters to choose “the right leader” and attacked Trzaskowski as “a train wreck”. This kind of overt election interference is increasingly common in the Trump era and illustrates how closely Europe’s far right is now tied to Trumpism”
