This always drove me crazy when I attended protests in the USA. Why show up at a protest with a banner for the wrong cause? www.nytimes.com/2025/06/12/u...

Can anyone recommend a funding source for a small work package for AntarcticGlaciers focused on celebrating the role of women, indigenous peoples and minoritised people in arctic exploration? I am looking for £3-5k.

I learned today that the some Greenlandic placenames combine both the -ssuaq affix for "large" and the -nngua affix for "small". Example: Kangerlussuannguaq, meaning Little Big Fjord. This name appears four times on the Oqaasileriffik maps, describing fjords that are short but wide. Cute!

For any early career scientists out there with interests in glaciology, oceanography and machine learning, Northumbria University's 'Future of Ice on Earth' research group is currently advertising a 3-year postdoc position you may want to look at! Please share with anyone who might be interested.

Anyone interested in a 2-year postdoc working on modelling ocean alkalinity enhancement and sediment feedbacks? It can be based in Paris or Aix-en-Provence. 🌊

14 days of strike action incoming at @newcastleucu.bsky.social 🚨 Newcastle vice-chancellor has put 300 jobs on the line. He now needs to stop going half way round the world during a staff travel ban & get back to the negotiating table.

Roses are red Violets are violet This use to rhyme Thanks reviewer two!

When I saw this, I assumed this was satire. Ladies and gentlemen, this is, in fact, not satire.

Essentially any street in Heaton, but with parked cars instead of zebra-striped metal bars.

Though the obvious one is Stalin, Joseph I (the 18th century emperor of Austria) ordered mass killings, torture, and mutilation of Romani people within Habsburg domains and certainly deserves to be erased.

We are running a session at Goldschmidt 2025 conference in Prague this July on biogeochemical processes in extreme environments. Abstract submissions are open until Feb 26th and we are particularly interested in seeing work re: #polarscience #polarchemistry and #polarmicrobiology
