New CBO analysis: The Republican party-line reconciliation bill would decrease household resources by 4% for the bottom 10 percent, while increasing them by 2% for the top 10 percent. As of 2033.

Cuts to NOAA funding threaten our ability to predict and monitor hurricanes and tornadoes—putting lives and communities at risk. But NOAA’s work goes far beyond weather. Guest blogger Dr. David Shiffman shares 10 vital but lesser-known roles NOAA scientists play.

Acts of #ClimateCourage can feel like isolated splashes of different sizes. But the ripple effects generate #ClimateHope Ripples from both big & small acts intersect to create unique 🌊 of action! An act of #ClimateCourage doesn’t need to be huge to inspire others to make their own ripple

Who's responsible for the climate crisis? Two new studies try to answer this question: but whichever way we slice it, the answer doesn't change much. The wealthiest are disproportionately responsible for the greatest emissions, and that's why climate change is so unfair. An explanatory thread 🧵

@ecologicalsociety.bsky.social curious when we will find out if our abstracts were accepted & the presentation date.

The Warming Stripes have now been extended downwards into the ocean and upwards into the stratosphere! Collaborative paper which tells the story of how the stripes were developed, and discusses their extension across the Earth system, is now available in BAMS: journals.ametsoc.org/view/journal...

"Do your own research" - Secy of Health & Human Services tells parents asking how to make informed decisions for their kids' health. Meanwhile, HHS puts open access environmental health journals on chopping block. Yes the journals where parents might be able to read research to make those decisions.

Deaths from heart disease down 75%, that’s NIH. Deaths from stroke down 75%, that’s NIH. HIV/AIDS no longer a death sentence, that’s NIH. 99% of FDA approved drugs in the last decade, that’s NIH. Please show this video to anyone who doesn’t understand why the NIH is so important.

Not here all #earthday. I was finishing a new talk on navigating the Trump moment (it will, in the end, be a moment compared to the scale of the world's climate & energy challenges.) At Marist U. tonight via @drrambio.bsky.social. Also fit in a restorative walk at restored Foundry Brook. Look back ⤵️

NEW: The Trump administration proposes nearly $1.7 billion in cuts to NOAA that, if passed, could decimate weather and climate research, including funding to nine California institutions. The @sfchronicle.com has obtained a White House document detailing the proposed budget cuts. Read it here:

🧪 Today, NSF disbanded its advisory committees of external experts, leaving only the ones mandated by law. This is a move towards using less input from the broader scientific community to drive NSF's strategic direction. www.nsf.gov/executive-or...

Been waiting for PNAS to put this online. A representative survey shows that 90% of US faith leaders accept the evidence for human driven climate change, 60% accept that humanity is the primary driver. Only a quarter mention this to their congregants more than once.

University leaders rarely emphasize research as their institution's central purpose when speaking to outsiders, and no matter how well we intellectually grasp the importance of research to universities, we cannot truly appreciate its centrality without experiencing university life from a high level.

You don't need to "convince the public" science is important. You need to help them understand that it's being dismantled and the implications of that.

The Trump administration is planning to cancel its lease at a government laboratory in Hawaii, a site where scientists support key observations of surging greenhouse gas levels in the atmosphere, according to a list obtained by Democratic members of Congress and shared with The Post.

The thing about scientific research is that it’s one of the few national investments that’s a clear public good even if you entirely discount the actual ostensible point of it.

A century ago, there was none of this woke food safety. Listeria and Cronobacter contamination was just a fact of life! Sure, way more people died horribly, but
