I realize I’m just shouting into the wind here, but: please, please, please stop posting screenshots without links, or summarizing breaking news events without links. There’s a serious problem with unsourced assertions all over the world right now, don’t be part of the problem.

There is no aborted fetus debris in the MMR vaccine, or in any vaccine at all. It is worth noting that the Catholic Church, one of the most staunch anti-abortion organizations in the world, has a formal policy that encourages all vaccinations.

I'll say this as many times as it needs to be said. Save our Freaks. Don't mine the Deep. (also maybe unfollow NOAA. They're a disinformation account at this point. Fuck.)

A two year old baby forced onto a plane by her government—our government. That’s what Ilan Wurman and Kurt Lash and their academic collaborators and defenders have been paving the way for with their bullshit articles. www.politico.com/news/2025/04...

Whoever at the CA bar was responsible for this should be fired immediately.

Yesterday, when New Mexico 11th Judicial Dist Chief Judge David Pederson made pointed remarks abt the importance of speaking for diversity during the swearing in of our first Native American district judge, Brianna Clani-Washinawatok… he was interrupted by applause. In NM, we celebrate diversity.

This is important. Food banks can bulk buy, and stretch that money further than you can. They also know what they actually need. Money is better!

Today I'm finding out which people believe that if you're part of a population that is a small overall percentage of humans on the planet, it's okay to strip you of rights. I wonder if they have considered how easy it would be to classify *them* into a small overall percentage, and do it to them.

More in No, Other People: New poll: “America would be better off if more people worked in manufacturing.” • 80% of Americans agree • 20% disagree “I would be better off if I worked in a factory.” • 25% of Americans agree • 73% disagree • 2% currently work in a factory

Another day wasted when university presidents & chancellors could have been in front of microphones. The total lack of loud public collective action condemning this & explaining to Americans why this is a complete disaster is utterly maddening. bsky.app/profile/mcop...

On Friday, April 11, traders placed large, aggressive bets that Apple’s stock would jump within days. They bought contracts that would only be profitable if the stock moved up fast. Hours later, the White House quietly announced a major policy shift. data-and-politics.ghost.io/173-returns-...

Yep. I saved hundreds or even thousands of dollars a month just from switching from Substack to self-hosted Ghost. I pay a roughly flat $85/month now (~$75 for mailsending, $10 for hosting), vs. 10% of all my subscription income.

My first official newsletter post. Please go easy on me. I’d be grateful for sharing as I get this off the ground. data-and-politics.ghost.io/data-and-pol...

In which I explain how someone turned $2.5 million into $70 million in 60 seconds. Either they're the luckiest person on earth or people were trading on insider knowledge about Trump changing his tariff policy. My second newsletter post. data-and-politics.ghost.io/70-million-i...

It's official now: tariffs on most imports from China will go up to 104% tonight Tariffs will remain at 20% for rare earth minerals, pharmaceuticals, gold, semiconductors, etc, exempted from the April 2nd tariffs, but this is the end of the vast majority of direct US-China trade

1/ I wonder if there's a complement to Mettler's _Submerged State_ thesis: the successful state thesis. In brief: American government has *in many ways* been so successful for so long that Americans have forgotten why they need it, making anti-government rhetoric more appealing.

🚨 BREAKING: Long COVID research grants rescinded earlier this week have been restored, according to researchers & patient reps. Advocates organized quickly yesterday in response to the news, helping reverse the decision. Exclusive in @thesicktimes.bsky.social thesicktimes.org/2025/03/28/u...

This continues to be the biggest story in the country: DOGE has already squandered half a trillion dollars in 6 weeks. Not billion. half a trillion, $500 billion talkingpointsmemo.com/edblog/irs-p...

In 25 years of covering national security, I’ve never seen a story like this: Senior Trump officials discussed planning for the U.S. attack on Yemen in a Signal group--and inadvertently added the editor-in-chief of The Atlantic. www.theatlantic.com/politics/arc...

I helped build a government AI system. DOGE fired me, rolled the AI out to the whole agency, and implied the AI can do my job and the jobs of the others they've fired. It can't. But, what DOGE accidentally revealed about themselves in the process is fascinating. 🧵

If you're still on Substack but want to make the move elsewhere, I highly recommend Ghost. Email [email protected] and they'll take care of virtually everything. If you're worried about hanging onto subscribers, they kept everything in place from the old place. I've added 100+ new ones today.

This is an opinion piece that evidently meets Jeff Bezos' new test for supporting "personal liberties and free markets." Support pro-democracy independent media.

I don't need to call out specific articles, but, if you read something about a "waiver" possibility in the Trump DOD trans ban, you need to read Law Dork, where I explain that the alleged "exception" is no such thing.

Some news on Dr. Thomas Weiner. I’ve confirmed a criminal investigation is underway. Yet, the state medical board has renewed his license to practice. W/ @montanafreepress.org

SCOOP: WaPo Opinion editor David Shipley is out. Jeff Bezos emails staff about a change to Post Opinions: "We are going to be writing every day in support and defense of two pillars: personal liberties and free markets."

hello cis friends this is what people mean by trans genocide if a type of person does not officially exist, then any harm against them cannot be measured or reported this headline change isn't even being caused by an executive order it's simply the NYT editors deciding we don't deserve to exist

State AGs are looking for federal workers who have just been illegally fired to stand as litigants in a new lawsuit trying to freeze further action by DOGE. DM me if that’s you and you’re interested and you’re live in one of the following states: NM, AZ, CA, CT, MD, MI, MN, NV, OR, WA, RI, or VT.

The flying public needs answers. How many FAA personnel were just fired? What positions? And why?

The Trump administration has begun firing several hundred Federal Aviation Administration employees, upending staff on a busy air travel weekend and just weeks after a January fatal mid-air collision at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport.

NEW: Inside a chaotic 48 hours of resignations and rehirings at the agency responsible for maintaining the the nation's stockpile of nuclear weapons. Managers were given 200 characters (not words) to justify why staff shouldn't be fired. www.npr.org/2025/02/14/n...
