from @propublica.org: State Department officials campaigned to force Gambia to license Starlink, even threatening to cancel development projects. US diplomats now work on behalf of Elon Musk? www.propublica.org/article/trum...

Read every word of this story. We're discarding the people who truly make America exceptional. www.space.com/space-explor...

A truly gutting editorial from a West Point faculty member who is leaving the school.

if you care about people you have a responsibility to tell them the insane things they believe are insane

Good night 💤 The truth is INCONTROVERTIBLE. Malice may attack it, ignorance may deride it, but in the end there it is. Winston Churchill

OMG I FIGURED IT OUT UNLIKABLE? SOCIOPATHIC? PETULANT? WHINY? STEPHEN MILLER IS GROWN-UP CAILLOU

It would be very healthy for human species, If there is less Discouragement.

Before the election, I warned that there is no safe haven under authoritarianism. If they can ship Kilmar Abrego Garcia to a foreign prison—accused of no crime, with no trial—they can do it to anyone. Americans of conscience must stand against this now.

If you feel like being inspired by a big law firm, here's the opening to Sussman Godfrey's lawsuit against Trump and his executive order targeting the firm. It still is amazing other firms caved quickly to Trump's mob-like and unconstitutional shakedown. storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...

Elizabeth Bruenig attended the annual Natal Conference last month and found the idea that having children is good and ought to be supported by society pretty unobjectionable. What was disturbing was the dominance of far-right politics in the discourse:

What you have to ask yourself about vaccines is: is the cure worse than the disease? It's not? Well you still have to ask yourself, until proven otherwise. It has been proven otherwise? You still have to wonder,

Ozymandias

Can we please remember that John Adams literally represented the Redcoats who did the Boston Massacre. Like, if you’re going to wave the goddamn flag and say that lawyers ought not to represent clients you disagree with or who are allegedly guilty, then you’re just confused about American lawyers.

Was just reading John Quincy Adams' oral arguments before SCOTUS in the Amistad case and this part seems, uh, pretty relevant

This is going to get worse, not better. Never underestimate the American public’s thirst for performative cruelty towards The Other: defendants, foreigners, anyone they’ve been conditioned to see as less than human. We’re the country that made lynchings into picnics.

oh my god -- Comer thinks "editorial standards" literally refers to standards for editorials and is corrected by the NPR head

Dear Pete Hegseth, We have a lot in common. I shouldn't be Secretary of Defense either.

@ditzkoff.bsky.social From now on in every White House Chat:

People need reminding: the fatal flaw in our system, as in the Communist system, is human nature. Where Communists don’t allow for self-interest and greed, we don’t allow for lack of moderation and common sense. In the total absence of it we will fall hard and fast.

Fentanyl is very much like a weapon of mass destruction in the sense that Republicans like to lie about finding it and then use that lie as a justification to do ruinous, destructive things

One of the most disgusting historical analogies I’ve ever seen. Yalta didn’t include the aggressor and it didn’t exclude the US’s longtime ally in the war.

Anything that criticizes Trump should be criminalized according to him. This is the operating principle of fascism!

Walz: I think they hate public education because it’s easier to run an authoritarian government if you don’t have a population that knows.

Stalin blamed the kulaks for their own starvation. Anyone who blames Zelensky for Trump's decision to cut arms and intelligence has succumbed to the same logic.

This is what ardent NYT _conservative_ Bret Stephens is saying. Anyone with any sense knows that today was an absolute disaster and disgrace for the United States.

"History will remember this day— when an American President and Vice President abandoned all we stand for."

Trump and Vance’s meeting with Zelensky in the Oval Office today “gave the lie to any claim that this administration’s policy is driven by any strategic effort to advance the interests of the United States, however misguided,” @davidfrum.bsky.social writes. Read more: theatln.tc/SowY3Uin

RFK Jr. Vows To Make Measles Deaths So Common They Won’t Be Upsetting Anymore

i keep seeing the right argue that the nazi salutes are "trolling." i think there's some truth to that, but know what exactly is being mocked. they aren't mocking the idea that they could be nazis, they're mocking the idea that they should care one way or the other.

So if you criticize Elon Musk, Trump’s DOJ will send you this letter. Members of Congress must have the right to forcefully oppose the Trump Administration. I will not be silenced.

Van Hollen: "Can you imagine FDR in the middle of WW2 saying to Churchill, 'you know, we're not going to continue to help you until you turn over half of your coal and mineral reserves.' That's not how you behave when you want to support a friend who's under attack by an authoritarian like Putin."

Emil Bove is Stringer Bell

I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again: an administration (and its supporters) who believe that they are not limited by the rule of law have no moral or philosophical claim to the protection of the rule of law. “The law is whatever we say it is” warrants the same in response.

I think Americans, blessed with relatively stable government for a long time, assume there is someone, some adult, who will step in and make things right before the President does anything REALLY bad. There’s not.

One thing about me is that I will fight Nazis until I’m six feet in the ground.
