I rarely wear t-shirts with band names or logos on them, the exception being my “CBGB’s” one which I regularly wear when gigging. However I saw this one and had to grab it as it’s cool and relates directly to a song I’ve played weekly since 1991. Say “Ah-hoo!” to gig shirt #2.

Very sad to hear that one of Edinburgh’s best loved showmen has died. Shorty Rogers a.k.a. Ronnie Woodbridge originally from Liverpool has been a regular on the local scene for the past 60+ years. A lovely, funny, rockin’ frontman, who I’ve shared a stage with many times. RIP RW.

6 years ago today I was playing with “Band A” fronted by the delightful Audrey Redpath at Edinburgh’s Voodoo Rooms. We were making good progress, looking forward to taking the show around the U.K. and abroad then Covid hit and we never recovered our mojo. That’s a damn shame. #TheAssociates

Needed a few of these small plastic rivets for securing some trim in my car’s engine bay. Went to Nissan and they wanted £3.34 PER RIVET! So I went online and found a pack of 20 for £3.77 including postage. 100 of them was under a tenner. Seriously…Have a word with yourselves Nissan UK.

Had a nice catchup with Candice The Humanist this morning. Now back home with a list of jobs to tackle. First one: Paint Buddha gold as the original maroon really wasn’t working, which is almost certainly why he was half price in a garden centre sale last year. Next: Sort out the owls and hogs…

The result of playing 3 pretty loud gigs over the weekend, despite wearing earplugs for two of them, is deafness in my right ear due hopefully to impacted wax and nothing more sinister. Yes, I was poking around with cotton buds last night and it serves me right. Will I ever learn?

So…Father’s Day eh! Gone almost 13 years now. A complicated man to say the least. I miss him when he was on form. I don’t miss the other guy. RIP WGW.

Two gigs today. First one done and dusted. Second one, which is our biggest gig of the year, is about to commence at Edinburgh O2. #ItsOnlyRocknRollButILikeIt

Today’s vinyl delivery. (Yeah, I know I said there’d be no more purchases for a while). Had this on CD for over 30 years but after seeing Hothouse Flowers play a cracking show in Newcastle last weekend I just had to have it on vinyl. “Songs From The Rain.” Celtic soul music at its very best.

Song of the week for me is this one. “Superstar” by Superstar. Rediscovered almost 30 years since its release after randomly buying their “Palm Tree” LP in a sale. Thanks @lnfg.bsky.social! youtu.be/u9gh2ucYJlU?...

Preparing myself for a fairly intensive weekend of 3 gigs in 24 hours by…well…going to the pub…but not right now. Might wait until 3pm-ish…

My taxi to this morning’s Coffee & Classics meeting at Peebles Hydro. Fun but jeez…not so much when going over the speed bumps! #ClassicCars

A taste of Hothouse Flowers from Newcastle last Friday. A great song with a massive, rousing, super-sized stadium chorus! #KeepMusicLive youtu.be/YsCb_1YtIB4?...

Albums I bought and never or very seldom played. Jeff Buckley - “Grace”. Purchased a few months after its release but just couldn’t get into it. Probably only played it 3 times max. Noticed it in my CD collection this morning so giving it another go now. So far so good. 🎼👍🎼

This man is 86 years old today! Incredible. He’s one of the main reasons, maybe even THE main reason I started playing music. Happy Birthday Ian Hunter of Mott The Hoople and not forgetting a long, successful and indeed excellent solo career.

I bloody love the sound of these two fellas singing together and indeed the magnificent sound of the E-Street Band in full flight! Springsteen at the BBC is happening now on BBC2. #Springsteen

Saturday afternoon maximum rock’n’roll is about to commence at Bannermans Bar, 212 Cowgate, Edinburgh. 3:30-5:30pm. Free Entry. Come on down!

It’s Springsteen night on BBC2. Looking forward to it. 🎼👍🎼

Bugger. Another excellent record shop bites the dust. Tough times bite hard. #Vinyl #Inverness

Just played 3 full-on gigs in under 48 hours. Needed to prove to myself I could still do it as it’s been a while. Now rewarding myself with a hot bath and a bottle (or three) of this excellent local ale. Slainte!

Been looking at hotels for a trip south in June. Two weeks ago a central Travelodge was £202 for 2 nights plus £16 parking. Same dates at posh hotel along the road was £549 with free parking. Now the Travelodge is £311 plus parking and the fancy hotel is £305, parking included. I guess it’s all…

Packing the truck in preparation for a 3 gig weekend. Almost like the old days except it was anything up to 12 gigs a week back then. Do I miss the old days? No, not really. All that gear humping, setting up and tearing down. No thanks. #NeverHadARoadieInMyLife

On the right is a £1 charity shop find from a few months ago. Record is near mint but sleeve is knackered. Found a better sleeved copy today. Couldn’t resist it. Vinyl is again N/M and it came from the collection of the late Mike Whellans. A Scottish musician of note. Which is nice to know. #Vinyl

A song for a sunny day! 🎼👍🎼

Well…I wouldn’t go that far but Gala has a decent arts venue and cheap beer just around the corner. Decent record shop too but it closed at 4pm just as I was starting to browse the “D” section. So here I am. Killing time until @wordweaverjane.bsky.social arrives.

Well…it’s that time again. Never pleasant but much simpler than it used to be. Friday’s scoop of the day. Now done, dated and posted. Good luck to my postman Hugh. My thoughts are with you… #NHSScotland #BowelScreening #SampleAndHold

This is gonna be a cracker. 3 great bands for a tenner in a pretty special venue. Come on down if you’re out and about in the Peebles, Tweed Valley or Galashiels area or indeed it’s just a short train ride for any Edinburgh music fans. #KeepMusicLive #SupportGrassrootsVenues

A few weeks ago I decided it was time to stop buying records until a) I better familiarised myself with my entire current collection and b) because I lost my part time job. So this is it. My last spend for a while. Just shy of £70. Craig Finn, Counting Crows and Be-Bop Deluxe. #FinalVinyl

I often wondered what life would be like if I made it to 60 or indeed beyond. Apparently it’s like this and I have no complaints. Nice bunch of folks. Some I know well, others I only met today. Bottom line: We’re all glad to still be alive and very nearly kicking.

When your mate has a small brewery in his garage and has 90 pints of 7.3% NEIPA to drink before he goes off on holiday tomorrow…

Well this is rather nice! The village of Eddleston in the Scottish Borders where my great grandparents lived. Their former cottage is now part of the excellent Horseshoe Inn. Now at the Scots Pine Tearoom awaiting the arrival of a pal for coffee and cake.

We’ve had pretty much 355 days of mainly crap weather. A mere 10 days of blue skies and sunshine and we’re now being told a water shortage is imminent! #VisitScotland

The Rolling Stones’ “Grrr!” film is on Sky Arts right now and it’s pretty damn good!

30 years ago today, 4th May 1995, I left Edinburgh for a life in the less frantic Scottish Borders. No regrets. Well, maybe a couple. #Peebles

Well..this is early. Worth the 9am bus trip though. It’s Constant Follower doing a ludicrously early showcase for Wide Days.

Limbering up to attend tomorrow’s gig at Edinburgh’s Usher Hall. “The Soft Bulletin” and “Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots” by The Flaming Lips.
