Happy Summer Solstice to all! Just before the 8:28 pm sunset, we climbed Asnebumskit Hill near Worcester, Massachusetts with @gwlandtrust.bsky.social for the same glorious view admired by Thoreau in 1852. Mountain Laurel in bloom & a few ripe blueberries for picking. Appreciating Mother Earth!

Good short thread by two long-time top academics.

Dana Milbank, lovely WaPo article on the restorative power of observing nature with plenty of real detail on actual species observed, not just philosophy. Link should be paywall-free gift article. #Merlin #iNaturalist wapo.st/4kJERXT

We are supposed to remember our fallen soldiers on Memorial Day but this is what Trump wrote. Sick.

I’m in favor of Texas schools displaying the Commandments that Trump has obeyed

Our State special concern wild native lupine species in full flower yesterday, 24 May 2025. Lupinus perennis or sundial lupine. On sorted glacial till. This one is in walking distance from my home, a blessing. I often have to travel a couple hours for my survey work.

Trump, West Point commencement speech: “And he sold his company, and he had nothing to do. He ended up getting a divorce, found a new wife. Could you say a trophy wife? I guess we can say a trophy wife. It didn't work out too well, but it doesn't – that doesn't work out too well, I must tell ya. ”

I don’t want foreign students out of Harvard but I do want foreign billionaires out of the government

Can't we just wait a few years and let the ocean come to us? Good point.

If you've never seen @ellecordova.bsky.social's videos on science or typography or anything, you're in for a treat. Super clever and short. This one is on Continental Drift, tectonic plates, etc. Love her work. youtube.com/shorts/aaySt...

Great news article about rare plant #botany in New England. www.nhpr.org/nh-news/2025... Nice work, Scott Bailey! #Salix

I had good luck with my recent 100% sourdough (no yeast added). Half whole wheat with walnuts and dates. No recipe. Just using my instincts. #Breadsky

Fun story. Just one person being a good human and helping others. No politics. No religion. Just one to one listening. He's Canadian, of course eh? Gift article, no paywall, quick read with photos.

Ain't it the truth! I like aphorisms that so concisely summarize hundreds of recent newpaper stories and stubstack posts in a single sentence.

It’s like we’re living in a country governed by the world’s angriest Facebook comments section, except the mods are armed, the rules are written in bronzer, and the admin keeps pausing to critique pop stars from his tanning bed. open.substack.com/pub/jojofrom...
