Still time to get a last call in on this. Dial 1-833-STOP-WAR (1-833-786-7927) to be connected, or find scripts here:

higher ed institutions are cutting programs in favor of career-focused training and this is happening at the same time that employers are praising the analytical skills and interpretive acumen of humanities students.

a chance to recommend @judithweisenfeld.com’s excellent New World A-Coming: Black Religion and Racial Identity During the Great Migration nyupress.org/978147988880...

academia is often - not always - a wealth replication structure. so much of being able to make it through doctoral training depends on generational wealth/family support networks. it is not easy to if you come from a poor or working class family to make it through your doctoral training.

A director of an immigrant rights group said that his organization had received around 4,000 calls regarding disappearances since June 6th. “Some we just don’t know where they’re at,” he said. “We keep getting reports that folks are missing.”

The divides among Republicans on this sick budget bill are so deep, & the cuts so politically toxic, that we have a real shot at flipping 4 R votes! Can you volunteer 2 hours June 23-26 to connect at-risk Medicaid recipients directly to their GOP senators? 🔥🔥💙 www.mobilize.us/moveon/event...

“demise unfolded”

Anyone trying to extract a scrap of geopolitical logic from Trump’s attack on Iran should be asked to explain how Trump signed a deal with the Taliban, and walked away from a whole generation of Afghan allies without a backward glance, condemning a whole society to grinding oppression.

This overview of border-immigration spending in the Republicans' big giant "fund the Trump agenda" bill will be in tomorrow's Border Update. I think I got the items right—but if you're following this, let me know if I missed anything. It's _so much money_ for border lockdowns and ICE on steroids.

"This is not a diplomatic failure. It is the calculated foreclosure of diplomacy. Not a deviation... but the logical culmination of a decades-long consensus in Washington and Tel Aviv: that no independent power in the Middle East should be able to escape the architecture of subordination."

🚨 There’s a lot of horrific news out of Washington right now—but you might have missed this: Senate Republicans just introduced a plan to sell off 120 million acres of our public lands. Let me break down what’s in the bill and why it’s a full-scale land grab. 🧵

UN rights chief says Israel’s warfare methods ‘inflicting horrifying, unconscionable suffering on Palestinians’.

total heartbreak

A fascist state looks like a duly elected Senator being manhandled by police for questioning executive abuse of power. Not surprising considering the instigation and escalation of violence we’ve seen from ICE and DHS in Los Angeles. The people deserve better.

read this thread. it's a satisfying read.

"If you saw all this in any other country — soldiers sent to crush dissent, union leaders arrested, opposition politicians threatened — it would be clear that autocracy had arrived."

this, like the trans panic, show billionaires can sway public opinion significantly by hiring fake experts and inundating the population with their desired messaging. it’s a huge problem and one i’m not sure how to contend with as of yet

"We really are just lost for words at this point. The suffering is intolerable." UNRWA Louise Wateridge tells @cnn.com. After months of war and siege, #Gaza humanitarian crisis is overwhelming. People are starving, deeply traumatized, and have nowhere safe to go. The siege must be lifted.

you can say they are trying to kill people or that they're shrinking government services or whatever you wan to say but they are creating conditions that lead to death, and doing so in a way that disproportionately affects the Black population

Effectively eliminating Medicaid would be catastrophic in a myriad of ways that many people are blissfully unaware of because they don’t how deeply Medicaid is woven into our society. If you care about public health, jobs, hospitals, the economy, or just people being alive: Call your reps.

‘Adults are going hungrier to keep children better fed. The most vulnerable – infants, pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers and others needing special diets – are already starving.’ Alex de Waal on famine in Gaza, from the blog: www.lrb.co.uk/blog/2025/ma...

BREAKING: The Israeli military has issued forced evacuation orders for Khan Younis, Gaza’s second-largest city, warning there will be an “unprecedented attack”. 🔴 LIVE updates: aje.io/7w6uku

You can laugh at the hypocrisy of Bari Weiss' "free speech" UATX that cancels actual free speech, or cry at NYU's attack on a pro-Palestine commencement speaker But U.S. college free speech is dead. Let's talk about the far-right plot that killed it. My new column www.inquirer.com/opinion/comm...

I think it’s kind of interesting that so many cultural and political elites decided “learning loss” from remote schooling during a pandemic was so severe it was worth ignoring medical safety, while actual learning loss from AI is pervasive and growing and they all want to impose more of it on us.
