Since we started publishing our reports digital-first (HTML) one thing has been clear: our PDFs had very little consistency in terms of structure and format. Output to output, and by year on year

Much of the Government's intention for cutting PIP and UC is to motivate people to find a job But cutting social security can't 'incentivise' people into jobs that don't exist New @jrf-uk.bsky.social analysis shows there are simply too few jobs for the Government's argument to hold

Good bike ride to Beverley yesterday, took a shady route

Govt just published the Bill to cut disability benefits for > 3 million people, revealing that mitigations for those with the most severe conditions ministers have been telling MPs about will protect only up to 10% of new claimants from a halving of UC's health element 1/5

📢 9.3 million people are facing hunger and hardship in the UK! We support the Joseph Rowntree Foundation @trusselluk.bsky.social and and 100s of people at @ukparliament.parliament.uk today calling on MPs to Guarantee our Essentials. Here's why it matters: bit.ly/3FEZKnK #EssentialsGuarantee

1 in 6 children in Wales has been in poverty in 3 out of the last 4 years. 🚨 Urgent, radical action from the Welsh and UK governments is needed to avoid lasting consequences. Our report out today with the Bevan Foundation lays bare the state of poverty in Wales in 2025. 1/6

240,000 children are in poverty in Scotland. Every one of them is a reason for all political parties to deliver a better Scotland. 📝 We have published a toolkit to ensure that each party's manifestos is up to the task of meeting the child poverty reduction targets: www.jrf.org.uk/child-povert....

New @jrf-uk.bsky.social analysis of disability benefit cuts by Parliamentary constituency and health condition. Select your constituency from drop-down menu on the chart at the following link, to see how many PIP recipients are at risk of losing out: jrf.org.uk/social-secur...

Really interesting from @luketryl.bsky.social on whether Govt’s welfare policies are becoming its Achilles heel, because they run counter to voter concern about the cost of living and hardship & their expectations of a Labour government.

The Pathways to Work proposals will impact young people already facing high levels of hardship - undermining the Youth Guarantee. 💭 @rachelcasey.bsky.social examines the two competing government visions for young people furthest from the labour market. Read more: www.jrf.org.uk/work/young-p...

My parkrun is now 23.39 with a new PB. It's fair to say I've got the running bug

Someone has emailed asking if we can share best practice on content retention and archival. It's an area where I reluctantly have deep fought expertise. Looking forward to the conversation next week

👋 Anyone got great examples of annual report / review for a public sector org? Accessible, no fluff and waffle, to the point. HTML not designed for print as vanity document? Bonus point if you have any evidence to back up design approach?

Set my PB at parkrun this weekend. Dead chuffed. Came in with a guy called James Caan. Reminded me of the film, Rollerball, set in dystopian 2018 where individual freedoms have been eroded by a global conglomerate

We've put several processes in place this last year and this is good advice 👇

I find the activists paradox to be a profound insight, and come back this often: www.spectator.co.uk/article/the-...

Record breaking new poverty data (for 2023/4) for all the wrong reasons. 📈Record number children in poverty - 4.5m 📈Record number people experiencing food insecurity - 7.5m 📈Record number people in households using a food bank in previous 12 months - 2.8m (1.1m of whom were children)

New poverty rate figures show the West Midlands, London and the North West had the highest child poverty rates with over a third of children in poverty. In Scotland (where things are being done differently) the child poverty rate is joint lowest for the UK at 23%.

The @jrct.bsky.social - a relatively radical York based grant making foundation - is looking for new trustees micro.green-park.co.uk/jrct-trustees/

The reading group for hopeful technologists was so nice we're doing it again in April and May. In April we'll revisit @ruha9.bsky.social's Imagination: A Manifesto (now the paperback is available) and in May read @danmcquillan.bsky.social's Resisting AI www.careful.industries/blog/2025-3-...

Last year our Trustees made a really important decision about JRF's financial assets: to move to a fully mission-aligned endowment. This is a big shift for @jrf-uk.bsky.social, a new approach to stewarding the wealth we hold. You can find out a bit more here, and maybe come and help us?

Great piece. I'm a huge fan 🦂

See jrf.org.uk/social-secur... for @jrf-uk.bsky.social analysis from me looking at the c400 welfare changes (mostly cuts) scored the OBR since 2010. A £6bn cut containing a £5bn PIP cut is unprecedented - and I use that word advisedly.

If this is correct, it will increase poverty & make it harder to live independently “Cost-cutting reforms due to be announced next week are set to deny payments to many people with mental health conditions and those who struggle with washing, dressing themselves and eating”
