There's so much to say about Michigan and Florida this evening, and I refuse to say any of it online. ☕🫖

The Florida Board of Governors has voted against the confirmation of Dr. Santa Ono as the University of Florida's next president

@wnba.com Dawn Montgomery wrote an excellent piece about racist spectators (they're not fans). You can read it here, no paywall. spokesman-recorder.com/2025/06/01/w...

This is a pretty thorough articles that discusses reparations in other communities, too—-Tulsa announces reparations for the 1921 ‘Black Wall Street’ massacre wapo.st/4dNSbrF gift link

Explore this gift article from The New York Times. You can read it for free without a subscription. www.nytimes.com/2025/06/03/c...

Useful piece overall. I did note that every person cited was an economist. How curious. Gift link www.wsj.com/economy/stud...

Just extra props to @thecity.nyc not just for the work but also for not treating this like some special scoop or exclusive They went in and did the work and emphasized that this is to persecute specific women

"move fast and break things" those "things" are people, you sociopath

I’m officially running to be the Ranking Member of the House Oversight Committee. These are not normal times—and this cannot be a business-as-usual moment. Read my full letter to my colleagues here: crockett.house.gov/media/press-...

On Sunday, my friend, Jonathan Joss was murdered and it took me a minute to find the words... Like so many of our lives, Jonathan's existed at the powerful intersections of Indigeneity, queerness, visibility, and vulnerability. He was fierce, funny, flawed, and real in every way that mattered.

“Y’all, we did it — Tulsa just created a $105 million reparations plan for the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre.” (From @thebwstimes.bsky.social )

“WHO YOU CALLING A BUNCH OF PANSIES?!?”

I think it's very strange that Democrats including their voters are using "Big, Beautiful Bill" over and over again.

A million years ago, this was a national scandal. Today, it is just an every day occurrence that we all tacitly accept.

Following up: while Jonathan Joss complained about years of homophobic abuse from his neighbors and his husband wrote that the murderer was screaming homophobic epithets, the San Antonio police says there’s “no evidence” of a hate crime. This is why so many queer folks don’t like cops at Pride.

Want to say if any academic identified with the left who was even 1/4th as influential as Yarvin is said something as offensive as “put the church Blacks in charge of the ghetto Blacks,” it would lead the coverage and call for a round of soul-searching for everyone left of center.

1. Florida banned cities from lighting up bridges rainbow colors for Pride. So the people of Jacksonville did it themselves using flashlights and gels. They opened the drawbridge to block them. So they marched to a different bridge. The latest from S. Baum. Subscribe to support our journalism.

Jonathon Joss was Comanche and White Mountain Apache HE HAS BEEN OF THAT LAND SINCE BEFORE IT WAS EVEN MEXICO AND LONG BEFORE IT WAS TEXAS I swear for god I need yall to to have an OUNCE OF HISTORY before you make words

Jonathan Joss was so perfect as Chief Ken Hotate on Parks and Rec, a character who loved messing with white people above all else. RIP

Been sobbing on & off since I heard the news about Jonathan Joss. You don't understand. It's so, so rare to have an Elder in Hollywood. We have a literal handful to look to, to learn from. Redcorn is often referenced by Natives as the only authentic (& funny) characters we saw growing up on TV

I feel completely heartbroken over the murder of Jonathan Joss. A gay, Native man murdered in cold blood saving his husband’s life from the hatred of another. The rage is endless. The pain is endless. They keep hurting us. It has to fucking *stop*.

Jonathan Joss (Comanche, White Mountain Apache) did not simply die from a gunshot. He was murdered in a homophobic, racist hate crime by his former neighbors. He died saving his partners life. Honor his legacy-- both queerness and Indigeneity are inextricable to why he was targeted.

I was sitting quietly in the forest this morning, watching a Royal Flycatcher nest when this wonderful Keel-billed Motmot perched near me for a few minutes. These are one of the toughest motmots. They're quiet, small, and love the dark forest. At @tapirvalley.bsky.social #costarica #birds #nature

also you guys the library??? We all gotta be using it more. An incredible public good. Walk in, get anything that interests you, check out for a total of zero dollars, walk out. anyone against it is my nemesis

Once you realize that every public good you want has a cop in the way, then you begin to understand our current predicament.

9/11/2001 was one of my most difficult teaching days. In many ways, it also marked the start of my adult political life. After living through decades of 9/11 commemorations, I expected there to be national mourning for Covid so that we could all grieve together. If this happened, I missed it.

Sat on the deck w/ Mom, talked with a mentee, continued planning our container garden and mini greenhouse, watched the bees and birds play around the pond, and beheld another sunset. 🙏🏾

These people are just wrong about literally everything.

What bothers me: only some deaths are seen as extraordinary, deaths worthy of mass mourning. For many of us, our people's deaths are seen as fodder for the daily news. Totally normalized. 💔 Sitting on the deck, listening to birdsong and the hum of traffic and A/C, that is where my thoughts lie.

I feel this in my BONES two years death threats two whole years People are talking about his mental health struggles … and yeah two years of someone trying to kill you, after unemployment as an actor, being left out of a reunion and burning your house down HE PROBABLY HAD SOME ISSUES

Imposter syndrome had a great run, but unfortunately someone found it stabbed to death right in front of the FEMA head who’s unfamiliar with hurricanes

[Trauma, homophobia, animal cruelty] I've been teary off and on. He just wanted to be a newlywed and they killed his dog and burned his house, and took his life and ruined his husband's life and I can't. The cruelty of this world. I can't.

I wish I agreed with the people who seem to think Yarvin is not a big deal.
