DC feels dry lately. I think we need good soaking this weekend. You know, for the plants. 🪴

“War isn't Hell. War is war, and Hell is Hell. And of the two, war is a lot worse.”

Jonathan Joss--voice actor of John Redcorn from King of the Hill, and Ken Hotate from Parks and Rec--was killed in a homophobic hate crime today. I'm so angry.

Cuts have consequences, illustrated. As seen on TV 📺

You do you, but only love lives here.

Do a quick Google search if you’re not already familiar with the Bonus Army of 1932. It’s an interesting page in our nation’s history we’d be smart to dog-ear and occasionally reference. www.newsweek.com/veterans-mar...

Revenue Cutter Service in the Mexican American War On 23 October 1846, the McClane and Forward joined a small amphibious fleet under Navy Vice Commodore Matthew Perry to capture the strategic city of Tabasco, Mexico.

I’m a proud Gen-Xer that resisted the urge to invite mom jeans back into my wardrobe. Some trends were meant to die and remain in the past. And I’m curious why mullets are now mainstream again…

Damn right we will! ❤️

I've just come back from the Cambridge Disinformation Summit where I gave the opening keynote, titled "Demanufacturing Consent - How Disordered Discourse is Destroying Democracy", featuring everything from Fake Hooves to Jackson Hinkle being the worst. www.youtube.com/watch?v=D-FV...

Welcome to my new “this day in history” project, covering the news of exactly 250 years ago. Hoping to keep it up through all the events of the Revolutionary War.

War with Great Britain When the War of 1812 began, Revenue cutters were called to action. In 1814, the Eagle encountered the HMS Dispatch in Long Island Sound. Overpowered, the captain beached the Eagle, the crew hauled the cannons ashore, and the fight continued. (1/2)

"I have not seen that man in a number of years. I wonder if he is still in the crawlspace of his bi-level, with the wind report in one hand and the edicts of AccuWeather in the other. All he wanted was a fair fight with the flukes of Barnegat Bay." Catch "Well Situated" by Angela Townsend!

🚨NEW EPISODE🚨When America entered WWI, they found their Navy seriously lacking. To fill the gap, FDR bought a bunch of yachts from his rich friends and tried to turn them into subchasers. It did not go well. m.soundcloud.com/llbdpodcast/...

Revenue Cutter Service: The Coast Guard Legacy When the Continental Navy was disbanded in 1785, the new nation was left without a naval force. In 1790, Congress authorized funding for a fleet of armed vessels to battle smuggling and enforce custom laws to raise revenue for the Treasury. (1/5)

USAIDs role in diplomacy and in shared, long-term collective memory cannot be overstated. Ask any Ethiopian why there is a shared national affection for JFK to this day…

I don’t know the status of existing exhibits at the Pentagon w/current policy (I should probably visit to check our project). But I think I’ll share the more interesting snippets we cobbled together for the USCG exhibit. The CG has an amazing combat history, it would be a shame not to share it.

The Journey Through Time podcast is fantastic. What a treat to hear the details of the pre-Great War national temperament that led to such an unfortunate tragedy that’s slipped the shared memory of most Americans. I’ve shared photos/text for the USCG exhibit I helped design/write at the Pentagon.1/5

New, from me: Trump is whitewashing American history, removing not just people, but also the stories, images, and values to anyone who does not conform to his impoverished vision of America. Here is a partial inventory. 🧵 donmoynihan.substack.com/p/whitewashi...
