The UK has the highest energy costs in world, this is despite being completely self sufficient. In the 1970's we had the lowest Energy costs in Europe. But that was before all of our Oil and Gas was sold to Margaret Thatcher's mates for a pittance.

The Government wants migrants to have A Level standard English. The obvious response will be countries requiring us to have A Level French/Spanish, which rules out more than 95% of people. Hell even A Level American/Australian is going to stop most people.
