Alito includes screenshots from the books he thinks parents should be able to bar schools from letting their children read.

Burnett: Do you like capitalism? Mamdani: No, I have many critiques of capitalism. Yes! For too long it has been taboo to discuss legitimate critiques of capitalism in mainstream US media. This has shut down any chance of implementing real solutions to social crises. A new day is coming.

Brilliant. 10/10. No notes.

Guys, the final deadline for being shocked that Mamdani’s mom is Mira Nair is next Monday, June 30th, write it down

Each time a remotely progressive candidate wins office in the US, the rich declare they're going to leave town. What do they actually do? Nothing. A 2016 study found only 0.04% of millionaires move in a given year due to tax increases. Rich people talk to feel important. Please properly tax them.

I cannot believe I have to explain this but just FYI, Indian muslims are not arabs

holy McFuck that last line

This is remarkable. New Quinnipiac poll finds support for path to legalization for most undocumented immigrants has risen to 64%. Only 31% want most of them deported. That's a 14 point net swing for legalization since Trump took office. On immigration generally, he's at 41-57!

We have seriously lost our way as a country. www.nola.com/news/politic...

curbed’s piece on mamdani’s design is so good. great example of how much can be going on with just a name on a solid background www.curbed.com/article/zohr...

can I interest anyone in some schadenfreude www.jezebel.com/susan-collin... @jezebeldotcom.bsky.social

This is the most Eric Adams anecdote ever so it definitely 100% happened

A secret, never-mentioned fact is that the people who voted for Zohran are also taxpayers. www.bloomberg.com/news/article...

Budzinski: Families making over $700,000 a year will see a boost of $12,000 almost entirely from tax cuts. Shockingly, households making $23,000 a year or less are set to lose about $1600 a year, mostly due to deep cuts to Medicaid and food assistance

People are struggling to define what Brad Lander did for Zohran Mamdani in this election and it’s a mitzvah. He did a mitzvah for Zohran.

This is the Great Replacement theory

This is a Hall of Fame reader comment on a very reactionary op-ed about Zohran Mamdani's victory that was published in my local paper today.

If you’re zip-tying grandmas protesting losing health care maybe you’re not the good guys in the story?

That’s quite a shift

the best part of this is that Ackman said he woke up depressed but then came up with this great idea, and the great idea is just to fund one of the other guys in the race

People in wheelchairs are getting arrested right now in the Russell Senate Office Building in DC. They showed up to tell Congress not to cut their Medicaid, because they cant afford health care without it. If you look closely you can see the zip ties on their hands. #WeWontGetOverLosingMedicaid

Nadler just endorsed Mamdani. A big deal both because of his epic tenure as a congressman and Jewish leader and because, I'm sad to say, the Upper West Side, which he represents and where I live, went for Cuomo and is home to a great many people who (I'm going to put this politely) need reassuring.

Reality check for the general election: Mamdani is poised to end up with at least 525,000 “final round” votes when the remaining ballots are counted and RCV is run. That alone is equivalent to 45% of all votes cast in the last mayoral *general election*, just with primary votes.

"For Every Millionaire Household that Gets a Tax Cut, 19 Americans Lose Their Health Insurance Under Republican Bill that Doubles Uninsured Rate in Many States"

This is a good idea and more people should champion it. You don't stop being a citizen because you're incarcerated. In fact, we should be making every effort to ensure people in prison know that they will always be part of society.

"bankers who quietly supported Mamdani" … folks, the Big Tent is here

You know what would encourage people to get more physical activity? No, it is not wearable fitness trackers. It is: 1. A liveable wage so people have time for it 2. Safe parks and other infrastructure for such activity But that’s too hard.

Seems like Trump’s most powerful advisor being a white nationalist should inspire greater alarm than the possible mayor of new york being pro palestinian rights

he's right and he's right to say it

There’s just so much: the victory of a new political talent, the loss of an old tyrant, the possibilities of alliance & positive strategizing, the hope for a more just future, the cracking of the last generation’s stranglehold on power. Also the joy and force of Tish James! Listen to her voice!

One thing we know for certain tonight: Anthony Weiner lost his comeback bid for the New York City council. We don't know yet who will win the seat once the RCV is run, but it is mathematically impossible for Weiner to win.

SCOOP: 'Big Balls' has officially left the building. 19-year-old technologist Edward Coristine, a key operative in Elon Musk's so-called Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) who's gone by the name "Big Balls" online, has resigned, the White House tells WIRED.

ok im going to bed but it's so nice how brad lander sticking his neck out in multiple ways - endorsing zohran and standing up to ICE - seem to have really paid off for him politically. it's encouraging when someone takes a political risk to do what's right and it actually brings returns

For real

“We can’t try to do good things because we might fail” is such a fucking weird thing to have become conventional wisdom. It’s like the Homer Simpson “the lesson is never try” line but somehow deadly serious.

Zohran at the rally for trans youth on february 8 ❣️ he was polling single digits.

In the words of Nelson Mandela: it always seems impossible until it’s done. My friends, it is done. And you are the ones who did it. I am honored to be your Democratic nominee for the Mayor of New York City.

You guys, Mamdani was the only Democratic candidate running who categorically opposed mask bans He was running against an establishment man with name recognition, huge amounts of funding & a history of abandoning the most vulnerable to die of covid This feels like a huge win for vulnerable people

I can't emphasize enough how ugly and pervasive and persistent the "Mamdani hates Jews" campaign was. I'm happy that so many Jews stood strong against that vileness. Maybe people will start to understand that we've had it with being treated as a paranoid, easily manipulated single-issue bloc.

Whenever I see Dems claim they are out of power, there’s nothing they can do, I think of Brad Lander and how he escorted people to court while being comptroller and running for mayor. Do something or get the f out of the way so there can be more Brad Landers.

stop running away from trans people and fight back

The establishment is never unbeatable; only unchallenged. Take 'em on. @runforsomething.net will help. runforwhat.net

After the Tree of Life massacre we went to shul and as we lined up to go through the metal detectors a huge crowd of Muslim folks stood outside with signs chanting their love and support for us. It was one of the most moving things I’ve ever seen and it’s a testament both these NYC communities.

The path for Democrats is very clear: have good ideas, believe in them, state them clearly, stick to them, act decisively in support of these ideas, speak to the young half of the electorate, support other democrats who do these things. Follow Mamdani and Lander's example or fade into nothingness.
