In a new On the Nose episode, from a live event in February, @maricohen.bsky.social interviews @rabbiandykahn.com about the history of anti-Zionism in the Reform movement and a new attempt to revive it. Listen here or wherever you get your podcasts: jewishcurrents.org/the-return-o...

for the last 5 years I've thought daily of the solidarity, creativity and care I saw during the 2020 uprisings. I asked @olufemiotaiwo.bsky.social, @adriennemareebrown.bsky.social, @mskellymhayes.bsky.social, @deanspade.bsky.social +more what lessons from then we can use now @teenvogue.com

Nothing says limited government and state rights like sending the Marines into Los Angeles.

More than 17,000 acres around the Klamath River in Northern California, including the lower Blue Creek watershed, have returned to the Yurok Tribe, completing the largest landback deal in California history. grist.org/indigenous/i...

ICE is putting the immigrants it sweeps up mainly into privately owned prisons. All of those prisons, and the communities where they are located, now have a direct financial incentive in maintaining fascist immigration policy. Awesome dynamic, nothing could possibly go wrong.

I will allow myself one armchair protest tactics take re: LA this rules

🗃️ A short article I wrote on "wartime race politics" for @oah.org magazine, The American Historian. It captures the context for my book-in-progress, Good Neighbor at Home: Mexican American Politics in the World War II Era (under contract with @pennpress.bsky.social). www.oah.org/tah/america-...

WASHINGTON (AP) — Health secretary removes every member of scientific committee that advises the CDC on how vaccines should be used.

even as a theorist I feel like I half agree with this

The most fundamental characteristic of fascism is its cult of violence. Where there is no pre-existing violence to exploit, violence must be manufactured.

🌟Today is the official publication date of my first book, The Politics of Care Work: Puerto Rican Women Organizing for Social Justice, out with @dukepress.bsky.social . 30% off discount code and link below. The book is dedicated to my wonderful parents, partner, and 4-year-old daughter. 💗

Here are some texts I got from an immigration lawyer friend of mine. Shared with permission. Some of the bleakest shit I’ve ever heard.

Aggrieved whites pretending they only lost out because of "unfair advantages" to minorities is an old script. The Bakke ruling against racial quotas came after Allan Bakke was rejected by 12 different med schools. He sued the *one* that had a racial quota, arguing that and that alone kept him out.

He is screaming "help me" and "oh no" over and over and over.

Democrats in Maryland decided not to ban sheriffs from contracting with ICE, worried that the White House may retaliate. Jordy Diaz, who advocates for immigrants' rights in the state, says he's disappointed: "They really dropped the ball.” boltsmag.org/marylan...

Let’s be clear: ICE injured and detained the president of SEIU California for peacefully observing. ICE picked the wrong side. The wrong state. The wrong person. and the wrong union. David Huerta stood up. And now 750,000 SEIU workers are standing up behind him. seiuca.org/press-releas...

When you turn 40 you are issued one tube of Chardonnay-scented lip gloss.

The interesting thing about people dragging the folks in that NYT piece who said that they didn’t vote for moms to get deported is that the article is about how these women are organizing for a member of their community, aggressively and openly, and actually, that’s good.

One thing about this crew sock thing — if you have short legs, the sock cuts precious inches off. Now you’re just a pumpkin with kneecaps. If that’s what you want, fine. As for me and my house, we will be wearing ankle socks.

Absolutely wild to observe first-hand the fights over school redistricting in the same county I research. Not bringing out the best in people 😬
