The usual late afternoon editing distraction

More coffee = ready for more editing

I am already in 4 book groups that meet monthly but last night I dreamt that I was DESPERATELY searching for another. #booknerd

Nighttime reading buddy

Current situation: unable to reply to an important email because my cat is blocking the computer screen and I can’t find the reply button

Photo from an all day conference last Saturday and I’m excited to be at another this Friday, where I’ll actually be taking pitches. Join us in person in Portland! portlandwritingworkshop.com

Went to the grocery store and bought a bag of coffee, a bottle of wine, and a box of milk duds.

That’s two days in a row that I’ve run the coffee maker in the morning WITHOUT the coffee grounds, making an awful lot of coffee-tinged hot water.

And just like that - snap - inbox under 800 again.

I *always* finish a book once I've started it. For years I've been trying to get to the point where I can not finish a book if I don't like it. I think THE SIRENS OF TITAN is going to finally push me into it.

Truth telling time - anybody read Vonnegut for the first time as an adult and actually like him? I feel like everyone who loves him first read him as a young adult. I cannot get into him but started late.

My sweet kitty sitting on my desk (when I’m there working he’s usually sprawled on the papers)

Ok I’ve read like 40 pages of the book group book, showered, and answered more emails. Still haven’t touched the manuscript though.

I was really hoping to read ~150 pages in the book I need to finish for book club next week and maybe the first third of a manuscript I need to read and so far…I’ve answered a few emails and that’s it for today.

Happy Indie Bookstore Day, please tell your local indoor bookstores that you love them, preferably by purchasing a book

It was never just about schools, it was never just about libraries, and it isn't actually about the books. It's about finding a way to banish entire people, entire ideas, out of society, back into the closet or worse. www.chron.com/politics/art...

Putting together my monthly updates for all my clients out on sub and am reminded that this month we got a pass from an editor that I sent out to last May, so FYI it's not just agents that are backed up and way behind right now...

PLEASE don’t buy into Amazon’s booksale this week. They are intentionally trying to eat into profits from Indie Bookstore Day this weekend, a really important annual event for our important community institutions. Check out your local fave or bookshop.org.

Just unearthed my desk calendar from underneath all my papers and notes and look, I’m even further behind on that than queries and my inbox!

Late for a school parent meeting because of how long it took me to locate the car keys. (Spoiler - they were in my pocket)

Y’all, Amazon is bad for writers, bad for publishers, bad for customers, bad for workers. bad for democracy. Would be wonderful if we could break its stranglehold.

My kid just interrupted my work to play me the a recording of the avengers theme song on kazoo, if you’re wondering why I haven’t gotten to your ms yet.

I'm just a poor country political historian and not some big city media fella, but it *does* seem like a slightly big deal that the leader of the United States presented comically faked "evidence" in the Oval Office to justify his power to disappear ordinary people into a Central American prison?

They’re not “deporting” people, they’re kidnapping them and sending them to foreign prisons. Concentration camps. They’re paying these countries to imprison humans. It’s human trafficking.

The problem with Monday night book group is that all my other groups meet later in the week and so I forget I have to finish the books for this group by Monday (really, ideally, Sunday) and what I’m saying is that I have a lot of reading to do this evening and tomorrow.

The founders had this thing they really cared about: “No person shall be… deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law.” And we are now seeing why they really cared about it.

"I know I’m splitting hairs. When higher education is outlawed and your local post office is sold to a used car dealer, most people aren’t worried about naming conventions. But rules are rules dammit."

here’s a curse word free version of “look it up” as requested by countless teachers and librarians 🥰😘

The problem with arriving early for a meeting is that when the person is just a few min late it feels like I’ve been waiting foreverrrrrrrrrr.

I was going to go out for a drink with some people tonight but we started reading this for our family read-aloud last night and now I just want to stay home and read instead.

Yesterday it was a pile of cat hair, today it’s this handmade (by my son) doll sitting in my chair. Hoping it got more work done for me than Dusty did.
