Congratulations, @lynnflewelling.bsky.social & the rest!

A three-year-old brought me a bit of black paper. "Look", she said, "I found a piece of night!" We're all born poets, but slowly we forget.

"It's called the Library of Congress. But Trump claims it's his." And doesn't that just say it all 🇺🇲

Full review is up for Hexed! Definitely recommend checking this series out for a simply fantastic magical academy! Hell, the art alone is worth the read! #booksky 🌶📚 🪐📚 📚💙

A big win! A panel of judges on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit just blocked the Trump administration’s push to move forward with massive layoffs. The court denied the government’s request to overturn a lower court ruling, meaning the layoffs can’t happen, for now.

My mistake: It's Auto Insurance that needs paying, not Health. They have only 1 family auto on outskirts of Orlando, FL & can't afford Ubers 💸 Apologies! If you're not comfortable with the fact that it's Auto, not Health Insurance, DM me and I'll reimburse you for whatever you sent. Thank you 🙏

Might be time to repost this oldie of mine from the bad site (originally written in response to arnoldzwicky.org/2017/05/17/l... )

For fellow writers and readers of fantasy lit, @mollytempleton.com article on portrayal of magic in fantasy is absolutely spot on. (h/t @ellenkushner.bsky.social) reactormag.com/magic-doesnt...

Yeah: Tom Waits is definitely the Patron Saint of Music for Riverside.

The Morningside Heights building — which also houses Tom’s Restaurant, the diner made famous by "Seinfeld" — has housed the Goddard program since 1966. But after the Trump administration canceled the lease last month, scientists are being told to work from home.

I've mentioned this before, but my father's father's mother died in 1970, when I was 11, and I met her several times when she was alive. Her father fought in the Union Army of the Cumberland, 12th Kentucky Cavalry, and spent a year in a Confederate prison. The past is barely past.

I literally (literally!) just had to stand up in the kitchen and shout: "Get up and take care of yourself!" The room was empty.

Trump's West Point commencement audience is totally silent as he rants about trophy wives and yachts

My father worked in a tire factory in Appalachia. Friends and family in the military. Used to vote Republican. Got into college on a diversity program for the underprivileged. Ended up a Harvard professor. And now my funding is terminated because we're trying to stick it to the elites.

As the spouse of a longtime federal employee, this is exactly what life has been like for them over the past four months. It's infuriating to watch the administration belittle the federal workforce like this and to see so many brilliant people leave because they just can't take the abuse anymore.

"You can chop the core and leaves and cook them along with the florets." Who knew? All that wasted vegetable matter over the years...!

I have literally no idea how to cut up a cauliflower

I am so glad we live in a world where I can look up how many cooked-from-dry chickpeas are the equivalent of a 15-oz. can.

This is a one-night event but is viewable on a livestream (or for two weeks after the performance) and is a fundraiser for a UK trans charity.

Since some folks don't seem to understand this: a personality disorder is a specific psychological term. There are only ten of them. They are relatively rare, as mental illnesses go, and they are devastating. It's not just a thing you can casually say someone has, any more than cancer.

Thousands of people's lives are being disrupted around the world because of this cruelly capricious decision. Trump ("Caligula's horse") does not know that it has occurred. Side note: Can't wait for more reporting on Joe Biden being old and not-in-control.

Will no one rid us of this meddlesome dude?

Just listened to Tom Waits singing "There's a Place for Us" My life may never be the same

One of the perks of living in a semi rural area with some land is that sometimes you get a week old fawn taking a break in your field while waiting for Mama to finish her snack.

"These cancellations leave scars. Some students will never audition again. Some will not trust adults in leadership the same way. Some will quietly stop speaking up. And some will walk away from the arts entirely, assuming it is not worth the risk."

Indeed

Yep. Scroll in up for the thrill of a lifetime. Kinda.

I'm trying to get 150 people to each send $10 to our friend Coco in the terrifying state of Florida, so she can pay Health Insurance before it's canceled. 🇺🇲 Health System has a lot to answer for. Thanks for your help!
