Polar stratospheric clouds so beautiful I nearly cried. Little glimpses of the heavens…

Interesting pre-print showing that clear-cutting in boreal and northern temperate is followed by a substantial and long-lasting decline in forest soil C stocks.

In Washington’s Central Cascades, The Nature Conservancy is carrying out cutting-edge forest restoration work to reduce wildfire risk, improve watershed health and build climate resilience. www.cnn.com/2024/12/02/w...

With climate change upon us fish need need wide buffer zones of mixed mature forest to keep rivers cool. Sweden is unprepared with < 5 m mean zones. River temps are now more often over 20°, critical for salmon and trout, lets put a proper green roof over our rivers.

First advent fires on campus in Umeå. Magical sunrise at 8:30!

New #silviculture paper that shows that #irregularshelterwood may reduce #wildfire effects in #centralBC #lodgepolepine stands. This case study suggests effectiveness of irregular shelterwood in mitigating #wildfirerisk + promoting #resilience. journals.plos.org/plosone/arti...

Studying intermittent streams' expansion and contraction aids understanding of their ecosystem services and environmental responses. This research which will be presented during #AGU24 was conducted in the Hubbard Brook Experimental Forest. 🗓️🔗: bit.ly/AGU24_H11T08

Looking for a new textbook for the #silviculture course I am leading (w/ guest lectures from experts). We're using Pommerening's new #ContinuousCoverForestry Book, but also looking for either a book, book chapters, or key papers to supplement. Any suggestions? #CCF www.google.com/search?sca_e...

My son learned to use a pacifier the trip that started this side project-he’s now 8yo! Life happens!! ”River restoration effects on dispersal & the development of riparian seed bank: do poor seed banks limit restoration of boreal riparian zones?” onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/...

Great winter field trip to the local continuous cover forestry field trial! Crust so thick we could walk on it! Being course leader for a Silviculture course in N Sweden in the middle of winter has its challenges, but it’s so worth it to get the students out of the classroom. #CCF #hyggesfritt

Oh, shiny tower of sieves… making me feel very professional and grown up to now own my own!!! And tips for how to better mark them? Scratch my name? Sharpie won’t last long when cleaning with alcohol!!!

What an amazing resource we have in the Swedish National Forest and Soil Inventories! When your study site is a whole country, with >400 plots, you can find patterns... Ditches show systematic impacts... www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...

Just submitted my 1st, 1st author paper since my husband died 3 yrs ago. From a project born out of necessity-when Covid + Cancer made Finland not possible. I can't thank @kuglerovastripe.bsky.social enough for her drive, support, friendship and help w/everything from field work to writing💙🙏
