I don’t love the reflexive blaming of “capitalism” for the world’s ills. It’s lazy, reductive, and imagines a pre-capitalist utopia that never was. But I will blame it for this: the inculcated belief that the only people left who get to create things are those whose job it is to sell them.

Please don’t use my friend’s name to make this point in this way, especially inaccurately. He was *not* sentenced. And the JSTOR articles he wanted people to have unfettered access to, including for purposes of machine learning analysis, are also copyrighted material. You can just critique OpenAI.
