"It is certainly somehow always flexible enough to secure the majority’s desired outcome": The bracing candor of Ketanji Brown Jackson www.lawyersgunsmoneyblog.com/2025/06/its-...

even if he is released (god willing) that's 3+ months of incarceration, in one of the worst jails in the US, over speech the government deemed undesirable

And another thing. The framing of the NYC Mayoral race in a way that excludes the one woman (Black woman) running who just happens to be the City Council Speaker and who arguably has the best resume to lead the City is giving me the ick. I was very struck by this moment in last week’s debate.

The fact that so many people think celebrating the end of slavery in the US is “DEI” is actually clarifying of what they mean when they use DEI. amp.cnn.com/cnn/2025/06/...

Hey, quick follow-up -- isn't Iran closer to having a nuclear weapon because President Spiteful Shithead scrapped the JCPOA that had their program completely shut down?

If you're confused by Ted Cruz claim that support for Israel is in the bible, Genesis (32:28) a man named Jacob is given a new name: Israel. His children become known as the "children of Israel". Has nothing to do with the nation state established thousands of years later

the destruction of chattel slavery is one of the great accomplishments in our nation's history and the reason conservatives hate celebrating it is because doing so legitimizes the black counter-narrative of the united states

They told me if I voted for Kamala we'd have Middle East war, inflation, an economic slump, weaponization of DOJ, no peace in Gaza or Ukraine and incompetents all over govt. Well, sure looks that way now.

The only reason Republicans have a reputation as "fiscal hawks" is that the press refuses to tell the public basic facts about what they do when they are in office.

What in the… The weird houseplant that I don’t know what it is flowered while I was gone! And I think it’s some kind of Stapelia?

The answer is in ICE's selection of targets: * Democratic politicians in public * Immigrants attending court hearings, at work, or at schools None of those people will be armed. On the flipside, ICE is scrupulously avoiding raids on cartel affiliates, drug dealing sites, etc. They might be armed.

This photo. ICE is a gang.

As long as they’re hiding their faces, badges and names we should stop calling them “federal agents.” Call them masked goons or unidentified thugs or whatever, unless and until they provide proper ID.

So Brad Lander's wife posted the video of him being manhandled and detained by ICE and how does The New York Times characterize it? As Lander's campaign "capitalizing" on his arrest. As opposed to a wife wanting public witness to an unlawful act. C'mon, clean up your freaking act @nytimes.com.

One thing that I think about, as I watch the video of Brad Lander being detained by ICE without a warrant, is that the administration and media kept referring to Abrego Garcia as 'deported' when it was much closer to an extraordinary rendition

Walz’s big mistake, and Harris’s too for that matter, was not going to the right colleges. And that particular prejudice is on me and mine.

For decades, US presidents from both parties used a simple formulation for defining a tyrant: a leader who threatens or uses military force to suppress their domestic political opposition. Now we have a president doing just that and conservatives are cheering. www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archiv...

A top staffer to Sen. Tina Smith emailed Sen. Mike Lee’s top staffers on Monday about “how much additional pain you’ve caused on an unspeakably horrific weekend” Full emails below

Once again, the Washington Post feels the need add "many critics say" to something that is obvious and true.

"i asked grok" "i asked chagpt" yeah well I asked a rare books librarian and they found things I didn’t even know I was looking for, while answering questions about provenance

Everyone gets freaked out about the military dictatorship this and martial law that and seriously have you paid any attention at all to the cops in the last thirty years?

Big respect to every bored-looking, droop-shouldered, out-of-step, slightly slovenly soldier who helped make Orange Pharaoh’s parade what it was. Well done! We the people thank you for your service.

I don't usually edit videos but I had to do it 🔊🔊

the story today is of a profoundly low energy military parade being met with millions of americans in nationwide protests denouncing the dictatorial pretensions of the president

“A deranged maniac impersonated a police officer and killed lawmakers but if you’re an immigrant be sure you immediately comply with plain clothes people who won’t identify themselves telling you to get in a van”, what a fuckin country

The Washington Post apparently wrote their report before reading the book.

We have entered the "The police is saying that if the police is at your door you are not safe call the police immediately" stage of making America great again

No Kings march in Durham, NC. Easily the largest protest I've been to in Durham. Thousands ahead and behind me on the street /1

Look who isn’t afraid to speak out.

No they didn’t.

I think the key to understanding every soldier's lack of caring in this parade is to know that this is a three-day-weekend for most of the rest of the Army, in honor of the Army's birthday.

I think a public official masking during conduct of their duties vs a private citizen masking while in a public space for a private purpose are 2 extraordinarily different things and one is absolutely unacceptable

At this point, any masked individual with no ID posing as law enforcement must be seen as a potential murderer. Trump and his Republican cronies bear direct responsibility for this.

I would like my state, every state, to mandate badges, name plates, no masks, for all law enforcement in the state. And if federal agents try to break the mandate, arrest them, then let the courts sort it out.

The Fraternal Order of Police and other police unions are notably silent on a murder committed by someone who intentionally posed as a cop. Instead they are busing demanding no tax on their overtime and support a sheriff who wants to murder protestors.

When Stephen Miller gave the orders to ICE to conceal identity, Miller helped get these elected officials shot. He’s complicit in these attacks. Impeach, remove, prosecute, imprison.

Reminder: You don't actually need to even throw a brick at cops for cops to say you threw a brick at them
