Sharing too soon can affect public opinion, policy, and people's health. This is why we do peer review BEFORE publishing. e.g. *quad-barrelled qs *sample *anal msg data probs *framing of results. Consensus was mostly lack of evidence for anything, but title and abstract suggested otherwise.

Today in 1919, the House voted to send the 19th Amendment (giving women the right to vote) to the states for ratification. How 304-89 vote broke down by congressional district 👇

Thank you to @armandsarlangue.bsky.social for sharing such beauty with all of us!

In case anyone else would like a refresher on Magna Carta and Habeus Corpus, @arbiteriapetus.bsky.social has helped us out here.

Our funding to assist some of their efforts was cut off end of March. Yes, please support the sunlight of NPR public media!

This is authentic. I encourage comments!

#Media Literacy PSA: RE-POSTING WITHOUT CHECKING MAKES MISINFO WORSE! 1) Altho fake summer book list was in the CS-T, it was in other pubs too! 2) Fakery originated w/ Hearst’s King Features! 3) Mistake of CS-T and others, including re-posters, was not verifying source and content. Pause & verify!

Good advice here for everyone, not just students. For goodness sake, don't trust what AI spits out at the top of the page. Scroll to find legit sources.

It seems like House Republicans sneaked a provision to weaken the courts in their budget bill. This breaks reconciliation rules, but not like anything matters anymore.

"I'm blest if it don't look to me like the truth is better, and actually SAFER, than a lie. I must lay it by in my mind, and think it over some time or other, it's so strange and unregular. I never see nothing like it." Huckleberry Finn, chptr 28, Mark Twain

May 15 is Global Accessibility Awareness Day! I almost always only use screens in B&W. Mostly a minor issue, but others have more major challenges. Check this out! accessibility.day #medialiteracy

Just 1 ex of impls: Husband stuck in Newark airport chaos 4/28 when flts diverted bc lost FAA contact. 6+ hr delays made cnx cross country no-go. Dog stuck in "camp," rescued by frnds. He drove 2 days to me+fam after mlt attps to get rental car. Some had worse. Think loss of access to meds etc.

Congrats @anntelnaes.bsky.social, formerly of the Wash Post, for her Pulitzer! "For delivering piercing commentary on powerful people and institutions with deftness, creativity – and a fearlessness that led to her departure from the news organization after 17 years." www.pulitzer.org/winners/22684

Propaganda works best when people trust the sources. If other sources gain access, they must earn trust and make info able to be tested, compared. The commenters and additional materials they provide on articles like this are treasures. #medialiteracy www.nytimes.com/2025/04/17/w...

An explanation of some of what we have lost in the decimation of federally funded research for communication science.

Latke is signaling that we need to act on our priorities right now right away.

🙏 We need your help 🙏 The government continues to cancel grants at both NIH and NSF to censor science it doesn't like. We're tracking terminations to organize and advocate. Please report your terminated grants: NIH: forms.gle/J2znQ7y7YpeP... NSF: airtable.com/appGKlSVeXni... w/ @noamross.net

This thread and the piece at the end are incredible. SCOTUS ruled just before 1am and Chris wrote a thread through the night and published a full, polished analysis at 4:41am. I must note that Chris wrote this on the 250th anniversary of Paul Revere’s ride — to the hour.

The argument that misinformation research is a “violation of free speech” in turns censors those researchers who seek out and promote accurate information. Misinformation was already spoken and spread. Researchers have a right to speak the truth and use their speech to push back against inaccuracies

BREAKING: Senator Chris Van Hollen says he met with Kilmar Abrego Garcia tonight “I said my main goal of this trip was to meet with Kilmar. Tonight I had that chance,” Van Hollen tweeted.

Nothing says "we're the party of small government that's trying to stamp out government waste" like having US Attorneys investigate the editorial practices of academic journals read by a few thousand people.
