Many people have said this about Harvard. But Cambridge, both city and population, is a formidable opponent and would never allow it. Probably true of many college cities, and Cambridge is three miles by two hemmed in on all sides with, um, another world-leading university making its own claims.

One irony: as this continues, the initiative will be helped by Americans. Not just possibly moving there, but sending over their research, data sets, facilitating new projects, etc. I could even see big foundations like Mellon, Ford or Rockefeller shifting dollars and resources.
