I have a new piece out on Forbes.com: "Does Elon Musk’s Borrowing Show A Super Low Tesla Stock Valuation?" There are questions about the stock he uses as loan collateral, how much he's allowed to borrow under recent company rules, and what's being disclosed. www.forbes.com/sites/eriksh...

Must read.

Another day, another administration outrage in a campaign to undermine the Constitution. When will GOP members drop the hypocrisy and react the same way as they would had the parties' roles been reversed? (An obviously rhetorical question.) thehill.com/homenews/hou...

Something new from me on Forbes: "The Basic Corporate Error Of Maximizing Shareholder Returns" So many people claim that maximizing shareholder returns is a legal and even moral responsibility. They're wrong. www.forbes.com/sites/eriksh...

The current throes of the economy and society are what happen when you take someone who isn't bright, although crafty, and doesn't know much, with hidden personal agendas and a twisted upbringing, who insists that they're right and gets enough power to have their way.

Attorney General Pam Bondi won't let the American Bar Association vet judicial nominees because of "the bias in its rating process." The administration is probably upset that the ABA wants thoroughly qualified candidates. thehill.com/regulation/c...

Rubio wants to restrict foreign nationals who are deemed “responsible for censorship of protected expression," according to a story in @thehill. Talk about gall. How about all the people in the administration who want to quash speech they don't like? Jesus. thehill.com/homenews/adm...

Clearly hunting for scratches and snacks.

Trump: "I’m not happy with what Putin is doing," according to The Hill. Does he really think Putin would care? (I know the answer and it still astounds me. Or maybe it's for the people back home, so he can pretend not to be weak.)

I'm writing about the new tariff threats noticed that, among other things, Trump the EU's "VAT Taxes" and "ridiculous Corporate Penalties." I'm guessing he doesn't know that VAT is a sales tax on everything and that the has corporate penalties as well.

Those who think getting the massive bill past the House by one vote is a big win might find how much of a loss it becomes. 10-year yields are heading up. US no longer has top-ranked credit. The "slashing" budget will add trillions to debt. A country full of Neros.

Life can always provide mystery.

It seems odd that the Senate passed a bill to satisfy Trump by eliminating taxes on tip income. Are people who depend on tips likely to be in more precarious situations? I could believe that. I could also believe that tens of millions of others, who aren't tipped, are as well. Why not them?

From me on Forbes: "Trump’s Drug Prices Criticism Has Some Merit, Less So His Solutions" The issue is more complex than "lower prices" sounds at first and the proposed solutions may not have the legal and practical foundations to work. www.forbes.com/sites/eriksh...

X has lost 90% of its severance arbitrations, with awards from $100K to "millions," as one of the workers' attorneys told a California judge. Story from Law360. www.law360.com/classaction/...

Given the complexity of supply chains, variabilities in calculation of tariffs, and the incomprehensible uncertainty of the Trump administration's tariff plans, how is any retailer, even large, supposed to calculate this and keep the info current? Plus, it won't pass. This is stunt legislation.

Trump fires 3 Democrats from the Consumer Product Safety Commission. Republicans are okay with this? Will you still be when the next Dem admin purges all of you from any such positions? This is so stupid that even Dems haven't tried something so harebrained. Not to insult hares.

From me on Forbes: "The Federal Reserve And Economic Signs Point To Growing Worry" A lot of uncertainty makes the near future impossible to predict. www.forbes.com/sites/eriksh...

Was the UK on the US trade shit list? It's almost like bragging that you have a trade deal with Nebraska.

And now, a new candidate for Surgeon General — apparently a doctor but one who dropped out of her surgical residency with no background in public heath and acts as an "influencer." Anyone know if she's ever even worked as a physician?

Something of mine at Forbes on housing assistance cuts: "Trump Housing Assistance Cuts Would Hurt People And The Economy" It's complicated. www.forbes.com/sites/eriksh...

MIASMA?? Please someone say this is an elaborate joke. I know, it's not. What an offer. Let me guess, he's never used a microscope.

Bloomberg has a piece on Michael Waltz as "a stunning fall for one of President Donald Trump’s top aides." He's getting nominated to be ambassador to the UN. That's hardly chopped liver.

The Wall Street Journal says Tesla's board is looking for a CEO replacement for Musk. Given his holdings, that would need his blessing and agreement to work. If shares continue to fall, he could be in big financial trouble. www.wsj.com/business/aut...

When banks bail out of loans, even at 98 cents on the dollar, as just happened with the remains of the $13 billion they lent for Musk's takeover of this site, you can assume they don't think anyone is going to be good for it.

Exactly what I was wondering. Who has that type of cash on them?

From me on Forbes.com: "Why Corporate Profits Have Rocketed Upward Since The Covid-19 Pandemic" They've been growing sharply for the last 25 years but went into overdrive during the pandemic and have continued. www.forbes.com/sites/eriksh...

I was trying to find something I had written on Forbes and ran across this article of mine from last October: "Trump’s Tariff Plan Would Undercut The Entire US Economy" I'm sure many people see such wording as sensationalistic, but I meant it plainly. www.forbes.com/sites/eriksh...

Holy crap. Trump's pick for surgeon-general allegedly "falsified, misled, selectively omitted, or lied about her medical education, board certifications, and military experience." If true, would it be a surprise? lastcampaign.substack.com/p/trumps-sur...

Clowns to the left, jokers to the right, stuck playing DOGEball.

The Hill headline: "Trump floats wider IRS tax exemption crackdown" If Democrats did this, Republicans would be screaming. But, as so many things in politics, it's fine if they can make use of it. thehill.com/homenews/adm...

AI roasts Elon Musk www.youtube.com/shorts/DPNXU...

Trump is planning a military parade to celebrate his 79th birthday while he's tanking the economy? Are you effing kidding me? thehill.com/policy/defen...

“As Defendants acknowledge, they had no legal authority to arrest him, no justification to detain him, and no grounds to send him to El Salvador — let alone deliver him into one of the most dangerous prisons in the Western Hemisphere.” thehill.com/homenews/adm...

I'm so glad for @marisakabas.bsky.social . Years ago I had a lot of my reporting stolen and reprinted in Dow Jones, and nothing was ever made of it. Good to see that she's getting support.

A friend pointed out that in the pic accompanying this article, the image of Trump in the White House is his mug shot. www.axios.com/2025/04/03/t...

“The markets are going to boom,” Trump told reporters outside the White House. “The country is going to boom.” Yeah, everyone is so dizzy with excitement. Or is that confusion and fear? thehill.com/homenews/adm...

Entirely good news that Musk's pouring money into the Wisconsin Supreme Court race didn't get his preferred candidate elected.

So much insanity in US politics that this took me by surprise: Marine Le Pen sentenced to prison for misuse of EU funds and banned from the next presidential election. Gift link to the WSJ article. www.wsj.com/world/europe...

Another example of the financial shenanigans that Musk has exhibited with some of his companies in the past. His AI firm now owns this platform in a stock swap deal. Maybe he hopes his investors will chill a bit if they get a foot in the AI door. www.reuters.com/markets/deal...
