Harriet Tubman #quilt by my Mom, Vera P. Hall, who makes quilts celebrating Black people who fought for their own freedom. This seems to be the crowd favorite of the “We Didn’t Wait for Freedom” series. Happy #Juneteenth #quilting

Another experiment to compare dye outcomes between bamboo and cotton DK yarns. These skeins were ice-dyed using the same dye powders and methodology. The first two photos are the bamboo, the second two are cotton.🧶

Dyeing plant Fibres—experiments continuing! 400 grams of yarn in one bath: 2 skeins of Pima cotton, two of Tencel. Very different textures, but these are both classified as DK yarns. I was genuinely surprised at how differently the two yarns turned out.🧶

This week’s major experiment: my first cotton yarn! This is the first batch—not bad for a first try. I was curious to see whether some of the techniques I learned from dyeing garments could be applied to yarn. The answer: strong maybe! But I will need to experiment more, obviously.🧶

A woman walking home alone was shot point-blank with “non-lethal” rounds fired by officers in Los Angeles. A neighbor filmed the assault and rushed to help only to be fired on and ordered back.

Good article, and one of the few I've seen that actually analyzes the development cycle of an "unsuccessful" game and points out how even the best teams can be sabotaged by top-down mismanagement from a far distant parent company who commands them to chase trends rather than build on past successes.

This lawsuit is brutal. One of the exhibits is the letter Universal sent to Midjourney, including a quote from a 2022 Forbes interview that I bet midjourney regrets

An LAPD helicopter claimed to have ID'ed protesters from above and threatened to "come to your house." The threat was greeted with extreme concern by civil liberties and digital privacy groups. It suggests the LAPD could be using facial recognition to identify and retaliate against protesters.

Let’s party like it’s 1399: unleash rampant plagues and have the authorities ride out on horseback with armor to beat upstart peasants with sticks. In case anyone was wondering what the Conservative definition of “the Good Old Days” might be…

RFK Jr.‘s extreme anti-vax views — and his related conflicts of interest — were a huge problem during his confirmation process. So he promised not to change the vaccine advisory panel. Today, he fired every single expert on that panel. It's a public health disaster.

Literally everyone who knew anything about this ghoul knew he'd do this. It wasn't even a warning. It was obvious. That's why it's so infuriating to watch him jeopardize the country.

BREAKING: Federal agents in plain clothes and unmarked cars tried to snatch 1st graders from LA elementary schools—told staff they had “parental consent.” They lied. When pressed, they HID THEIR IDS. DHS admits they sent them. This wasn’t a welfare check. It was a test run for a police state.

good morning friends 💚✨

Some friends of mine on BlueSky have compared America’s militarized civilian police to real military police—and I assure you, the comparison is not fair. Real MP’s have far better training and discipline. Especially when it comes to a little thing called “trigger control”.

Yanno, if Americans are going to pay their state representatives thousands of dollars per year to outlaw imaginary things, I'd like to propose a bill to ban Sleestaks. Yes, they are fictional beings, but they freaked me out when I was five and they are just as real as "chemtrails", so why not?

Genius idea! Something similar happened in my last Lancer session, GM'd by the lovely and talented @fringecrow.bsky.social. We said goodbye to a departing player (returning to the mech racing circuit back home after a heroic tour of combat duty) and we onboarded the new girl (hilariously) as a team.

A few hours left until the show begins at XOXO Fibre Festival in North Vancouver, and I have one more new yarn color making a debut at this show: I call it “The Crocodile’s Garden”.🧶 What do you think? :)

Any new colours coming out for the first time @xoxofibre ? Yes! This one is “Baltic Amber”, a new colorway inspired by the molten glow of ancient fossils. It took me quite a bit of experimentation to capture that glow—but I am really happy with these skeins. :) 🧶

Sold out yarn colours returning to the booth for the XOXO Fibre Festival tomorrow: “Warm Muzzle”, a brindled mix of warm and cozy browns. Originally inspired by this hilarious trail cam photo of curious grizzly bear!🧶

One might well ask: what new things are you bringing to the XOXO Fibre Festival this year? Well, let’s start with someone really new: these ADORABLE hand-made custom stitch markers that I commissioned from the talented hands of Jessica at Perching Clay Art.🧶 I love these little guys so much.❤️

Just one more sleep until the XOXO Fibre Festival! This event holds a special place in my heart, because organizer Ponnie Matin was the first to give my art a chance—XOXO was my first ever festival invite last year. I am excited to show the community how much we’ve grown in less than 12 months!🧶

Wow. Look at that art!!!

“It’s impossible not to feel like this is all deeply unfair, and that’s because it is. Convicted criminals sprawl on feather beds while an innocent teen is curled up on a cement floor.”

Welp. Looks like my first political opinion as a full Canadian citizen is that Mark Carney was only faking resistance to fascism. This legislation could have been hand-written by Trump and his Project 2025 counselors. Carney has to go.

Wow, beautiful work! I love the colours and the way each icon is precisely shaded.😍

Ugh, yeah. People don’t tell you the many ways that tear gas is the gift that keeps on giving. Honestly you only have to be exposed to it once to want this shit banned.

Important news for fans of Apex Books @apexmag.bsky.social. In short, Apex was screwed by the bankruptcy of the parent of Diamond Book Distributors, who placed their books in retail stores. This hits my fiction hard. Please read and share this thread. 1/ www.apexbookcompany.com/blogs/frontp...

Aaaaaaa I just discovered this campaign and there are so many cool Perk options that I'm overwhelmed and paralyzed and can't choose--! Someone tell me what to pick! >_<

SO. EXCITED.

*rolls her eyes* Of course they fired more people. The shareholders must have their golden toilets, people!

I think I watched a season of that show! It was called "Sweet Home". ;)

If the screw worms are coming back I am leaving this continent. Hell, maybe this planet. I *hate* those gd things. >_<
