Last year my wife had breast cancer and a double mastectomy. This morning, for the first time ever, she was challenged in the changing rooms at the swimming pool. Her breasts were not what make her a woman - but, breasts or not, she is entitled to dignity and protection from vigilantes.

“Pope Leo XIV has called Volodymyr Zelenskyy to discuss Ukrainian children abducted by Russia and a western-backed 30-day ceasefire, in a shift from the previous pontiff who had struck a more neutral stance on Moscow’s war.”

Marina Purkiss, "We have a declining birthrate, an aging population, we either have immigrants and have NHS and social care, or we don't" "I can't believe Labour are making it more difficult for the social care sector to hire people. We have 131,000 vacancies"

“And so the Greeks send me this horse, we’re talking about one of the most beautiful horses you’ve ever seen. So big. So strong. Normally they keep this kind of horse for themselves but they were such big fans they said sir, please take our big wonderful horse we’ll even bring it to your house”

“For the record, prejudices can kill and suspicion can destroy, and a thoughtless, frightened search for a scapegoat has a fallout all its own- for the children and the children yet unborn. And the pity of it is that these things cannot be confined to The Twilight Zone.” - Rod Serling

Just watched. “They pick the most dangerous enemy they can find. And it’s theirselves.” - “The Monsters are Due on Maple Street”- The Twilight Zone Rod Serling was a prophet.

"All I can hear are the screams—the deafening desperate screams, from a mother, from her daughter, from the woman holding the daughter’s baby." www.motherjones.com/politics/202...

The cognitive dissonance just entered the confessional.

A reminder that when the Sycamore Gap tree was cut down people immediately started blaming immigrants and teenagers... It was neither. It was two white Englishmen in their 30s.

I did an update on who is seeking asylum in the UK 🧐 Are they all men? 🤔 What countries do they come from? 🤨 Why are only half of Afghans being recognised as refugees? www.youtube.com/watch?v=fsOc...

Happy 99th birthday to Sir David Attenborough—a true national treasure and global voice for nature. He is a guiding light in our efforts to make London a more sustainable city. From parks to rivers, his influence can be felt across our green and blue spaces.

When the new Pope has criticized your Nazified misinterpretation of scripture: (Almost inconsolable, JD Vance eyes a nearby couch.)

Happy 99th birthday to the man who gave voice to the wild. 🎉 Sir David Attenborough, thank you for a lifetime dedicated to the natural world, and for sharing its story with wisdom, wonder, and grace. You've inspired generations to fall in love with nature.

Amid dropping vaccination rates, 25 children in New York State died from influenza during the 2024-25 flu season — more than in any recent flu season, state health authorities said on Wednesday.

NEW: The rate of sepsis in Houston surged 63% after Texas banned abortion. In the Dallas-Fort Worth area, where hospital leaders empowered doctors to intervene before patients’ conditions worsened, it rose just 29%.

Emily Feiner was forcibly removed from GOP Rep. Mike Lawler's town hall after she asked her so-called "moderate" congressman to stand up to Donald Trump's authoritarian power grab. There's a great pushback happening across the entire country — even in Republican held districts.

If members of the press are worried they didn’t give enough coverage to the cognitive decline of a sitting president, they have an amazing opportunity to make up for it right now.

Happy St. George's Day! It's traditionally on April 23rd but according to church rules if any saint's day falls on a Holy or Easter week it has to be moved to the following week, usually the first Monday

Volz: I’m 102 years old. I taught for more than 20 years and have always been a great believer in American independence and good taste. We have a president who has no dignity and no sense of the dignity of a human being, especially one who is old and expects to die any minute.

Today is (usually) St. George’s Day AND Shakespeare’s birthday, so here’s a thread of English phrases (mostly individual inventions rather than common idioms), starting with this… The best English term I’ve heard for those who sit at home and act tough behind a computer screen is “101st Chairborne”

🧵NOT BY ME, this is a post from someone who wants to remain anonymous but works extensively with trans people pre-transition. They were asked by someone “why do you think that’s so much [coverage of trans people] in the news at the moment?” This was their response:

Staple this to RFK Jr’s forehead.

Yeah but you just took a picture and wrote D U C K on it

Thought of this thread after Toby Carvery cut down a tree.

Let me add something on the new Harvard letter story. The Times portrays it as they'd been negotiating in a kind of inconclusive and then Harvard was shocked at the extremity when it arrived. I had heard a subtly but significantly different version of events. As it was conveyed to me the ...

The cruelty is the point. The banal, vicious, performative cruelty. Turns out ‘anti-woke’ just meant anti-decency, anti-humanity & anti-rule of law.

This is 💯🔥

In today’s atmosphere, it’s obvious why a book warning of totalitarian censorship would be in the American Library Association’s list of most commonly challenged books
