Sen. Tammy Duckworth just said on Colbert, "We should all live long enough to develop a disability," & the audience laughed uncomfortably. I can tell you what they were thinking. It was "Not me. That would never happen to me." & the underlying, unacknowlged premise was "b/c I'm better than that."

Mr. Antiwar President has us inches away from a Civil War at home and a nuclear war abroad in defense of an ally that is starting random hot regional wars to detract from its ongoing genocide. I’m sure all of this will just naturally cool off.

The Minnesota shooter apparently used data broker websites to find the home addresses of the people he shot and murdered. Congress has had years to do something about data brokers and they've sided with the tech lobby over and over again. Their inaction is deadly.

People like when you unapologetically stand for something, specifically the working class. This shouldn't be seen as some super lefty position, and we shouldn't need a poll to tell us it either.

Arkansas P Gage Wood loses a perfect game by hitting a batter in the back foot, he recovered to end the 8th with the no-hitter still intact

Any successful and impactful democratic movement is going to have to hold these criminal authoritarians accountable and also carry out an extensive investigation and reformation of our law enforcement. It feels overwhelming but literally none of this will change without it.

Maybe flooding the country with right-wing propaganda for the last 40+ years wasn’t such a good idea.

For Dems to even consider a comeback for Cuomo after his serial predation of women, is for Dems to also say that EVERYTHING they claim to believe about equality and women’s rights to be safe in the workplace was bullshit. Do they even get the level of hypocrisy?

again, don't rank cuomo. just the shittiest, pettiest, laziest person.

NGL, i've been dwelling on the fact the world's richest man is using a social media platform he owns to juice a conspiracy in which the political assassination that occurred in my state yesterday was some kind of inside job. And I'm genuinely wondering whether any of this shit is salvageable.

Bc of budget cuts, every mobile shower program in Echo Park is closing this month…except one. Thanks to your donations, SELAH Neighborhood Homelessness Coalition can keep theirs going for months. You guys are amazing. THANK YOU! Fundraiser closes tonight 👇 gofund.me/c87f5566

people dressing like cops to do crimes because actual cops are getting away with crimes reminds me of how people are getting scammed by fake job ads because most real job ads at this time are also basically run identically to a scam. in either case it's a failure by the real thing to establish trust

Andrew Cuomo listing his accomplishments is like when an oil company makes an ad about how it cleaned a body of water it was forced to by a court.

I haven’t seen nearly enough people talking about this. The levels of greed and inhumane thinking on display is actually terrifying. America really is dystopian as fuck.

Today marks nine years since Jo Cox was assassinated by a far-right extremist, a terrible loss to those who knew and loved her and to politics. Zero lessons were learned though and the far-right continues to be pandered to. With more political assassinations in the US it all feels too familiar.

Somehow when we talk about "political violence," the REAL source of political violence, the police, gets excluded.

All eligible U.S. states and territories have agreed to a $7.4 billion settlement with the Sackler family and Purdue Pharma, the family and company behind OxyContin. The settlement resolves litigation against the Sacklers over the opioid crisis.

You know, I don't have a problem with sexual harassment being something that permanently disqualifies someone from holding public office.

The Times saying last year they'd no longer endorse candidates in local elections, then immediately being like "oh but not THAT guy" 10 months later because the candidate wants free buses gives away the whole game. "Objectivity" means you break your own rules to punch left as much as you want.

Bluesky is one of the only major social media sites that still doesn't bury your posts for including news sources or outside links and lets you customize your experience to best suit your mental health. It's why there's an endless stream of opinion pieces about how it's cooked

The stupidest people are in charge because we couldn’t prosecute a political crime because it would look too political.

I love all the handwringing about Zohran’s lack of experience when a 19 year-old called Big Balls has recently been made a permanent federal employee with the title Senior Advisor at the GS-15 pay grade in the General Services Administration.

Just looked at the numbers. - Botafogo spent $25m on new players last week. - Seattle have spent $40m on players in their entire history.

uh oh a Father’s Day comic

I get upset when I hear the Civil Rights movement characterized as “nonviolent”. It was violent. People were injured. Killed. There *was* violence. It just wasn’t perpetrated by the resistors.

Kroger has shut down four Colorado locations as grocery strike begins. The UFCW just launched these initial walk outs, but the strike could grow dramatically and spread across multiple strikes. Over 100,000 supermarket workers have authorized strikes across the West and PNW.

Elmo publicly stated that all it would take to manipulate an election would be to change “one line of code.” His words. Am I the only one who wants to know what the hell he meant? One line of code in what, precisely? I wish some of our best and brightest experts put some effort into figure that

The rightwing Christian assassin of Melissa Hortman and her husband is also a dog-killer like self-proclaimed Christian Kristi Noem. The cruelty they inflict in service of their god, without any remorse — on even the helpless innocent — should worry us all.

The killer is consistently described in the press as “a devout Christian who opposed abortion” as if that’s an essential trait of devout Christians. Many, if not most, “devout” Christians support abortion access. Melissa Hortman was a Catholic who taught Sunday school.

every time the "liberal" establishment signals some political figure or movement is "too far left," what they're actually trying to signal is that they'll look the other way when cops go off the chain to attack them joke's on them because the cops are *always* off the chain, there is no chain left

If all cops had to be drug tested at 9am this morning, how quickly do you think it would be in the news that all sorts of drugs end up in your blood just by looking at them.

I had the same reaction. Mamdani is such a threat in their view that they had to essentially reverse their non-endorsement policy. If Cuomo was cruising to victory, I doubt this piece would be written.

That institutions & establishment Dems are afraid of going against Cuomo because they know that if he wins, he'll enact revenge against his haters is, ahem, why they should be going against him!! He governs by spite, not by vision or what's best for the city!

Notice how wealth class media will spend years normalizing authoritarians, giving them the benefit of the doubt, and if someone who is even considered remotely leftist and wants to help people gains momentum they'll change every rule, twist history, and attack them relentlessly.

I did an event in DC & there was a party for donors etc after. Was talking to 2 ppl & I said "Things are so bad." They said "No this is how it is. Things swing one way, then another. It's normal." That's when I realized why Dems are toothless. They have no idea what this is. Frogs boiling in water.

ICE throws gas at protesters who immediately cone it then use boards to help fan the gas back at ICE.

If you rank Zohran 1st you’re voting to make every New York Times Opinion writer insane for several years.

NYT last year: We're no longer going to endorse in local races. www.nytimes.com/2024/08/12/b... NYT as soon as a candidate they don't like has a shot at winning:

The Atlantic piece on Zohran Mamdani and Andrew Cuomo is full of holes. Mamdani's proposals are picked apart and labeled unrealistic while Cuomo's supposed goals aren't even elaborated on. Cuomo is "an asshole, but he's our asshole"—the New Yorkers who he has sexually harassed might think otherwise

It's pretty telling that the second part of the "Mamdani is a danger to Jewish new yorkers" pitch is always "so vote for sexual harasser shitbag Italian Catholic Andrew Cuomo" and not "so vote for Jewish Progressive Brad Lander"

Authoritarianism is when can't buy election

It is really really sinking in for me the degree to which LLMs are the ultimate expression of right wing anti-intellectualism. Its proponents are literally mocking the idea that anyone would ever want to learn anything, know anything, develop any actual skill, or have a thought of their own.

Basically any time protests “turn violent” it’s because the cops decided to start shooting at people. I learned this during Bloomberg here in NYC and in Boston during Trump I. Delighted to see other people learning this too but sorry it’s being learned through experience.

it is, and always will be, fuck the police. until policing is fundamentally reordered in this country, america’s police departments will remain our primary nexus for psychopaths, abusers, and sadists

Yeah. I guess it does.
