We have to sharpen the conversation about AI (and critics have to get a lot more fluent in the tech) because the regulatory space is still wide open, and the current path is going to lead to bullshit “self-regulation” if people keep denying the reality of millions of people using these tools.

The thing about being a writer and admitting to using AI is that you are then simply telling the world that you are not, in fact, a writer, and I don't quite understand the point of doing that. Very little of writing is the putting of words on paper. The rest is all the rest.

Using ChatGPT to summarize books so you don't have to read them is like building a robot to have sex for you.

If a colleague had the reliability rate of an LLM, they would be fired. If ordinary* software did, it would be uninstalled. LLMs require the chat format, because chat makes us party to the conversation. We insert the meaning ourselves - and hold it to a different standard. It's the mirror effect.
