Morels cooked down with butter thyme and sherry to go alongside radish top and green garlic soup with sausage rolls and candy cap immune boosted coffee

Happy #FungusFriday from these Chestnut mushrooms (Pholiota adiposa) I grew on logs in my backyard using plug spawn from @northspore.bsky.social, I boiled them then pan fried and put on top of some leftover mushroom curry

UV reactive Nolanea #fluorescent #mushroom

Gorgeous guttation on the stem base of The Groom (Amanita sponsus), it is essentially mushroom sweat colored by pigments from the mycelium #fungifriends #mycology #nature #california

Just a wee little mushroom on a stick

Some gorgeous pixie cups (Geopyxis carbonaria) out in a recent burn. Asco cups like this can be a good habitat indicator for morels

I tap mushrooms for a variety of reasons: to test the density/maturing, to help knock off dirt, to chase away bugs/critters, and because it is FUN! The biggest misconception is that I do this to spread spores, to be very explicit - mushrooms are fully capable of spreading spores on their own. #asmr

Now this is one hell of a book 🙌 I’m learning a ton, just jumping from one interesting subject to the next. It’s like the most interesting Mycology 101 I’ve ever seen. Well done Gordon @fascinatedbyfungi.bsky.social !

So much parasitic Rust (Puccinia) on these rose leaves, the little orange dots are called “pycnia” and release asexual spores (conidia) that are just one part of it’s multi-phase life cycle where it jumps from plant host to plant host

Had a phenomenal weekend with my fungi friends at the Santa Cruz Mountain Mushroom Festival in Felton, CA hosted by Far West Fungi

Big old mature Prince mushroom (Agaricus augustus), similar to a portabello but smells like sweet almonds. Seen at Roaring Camp in the Santa Cruz mountains this past weekend

The more I learn about fungi the more I learn about life. So excited for the journey . Thank you @fascinatedbyfungi.bsky.social for your wisdom and for @octopusbooks.ca for being a strong hyphae, passing along this information to me 🍄

Slender salamander (Batrachoseps attenuatus) sitting daintily atop an Amanita mushroom

Great write up by Elizabeth Borelli of Good Times Santa Cruz about the upcoming mushroom festival in Felton, CA, cooking with mushrooms, and the potential for mushrooms as medicine www.goodtimes.sc/mycelium-mag...

Found myself a primo Fib King (Boletus fibrilosus) amongst the Douglas fir out on the California coast, not as highly sought after as Kings or Queens, but this is still a tasty mushroom!

Happy Earth Day! In a very copacetic sense, it’s also the day my book “Passport to Kingdom Fungi” is officially published. I hope it fundamentally changes the way people approach learning about mushrooms and fungi. It is available from all major book retailers a.co/d/7eCcEnm #mycology

Bay Area events I have coming up, come join if you want me to sign your copy of my book “Passport to Kingdom Fungi”, to be released on April 22nd (pre-order now to lock in a lower price) a.co/d/1zo2R15 #mycology #fungi #mushrooms

Vinegar cups (Helvella acetabulum) under coast live oak, apparently these are edible but I haven’t tried them yet

Massive morels here in California #foraging #morchella #mushrooms

Starting off King Trumpet (Pleurotus eryingii) “scallops” in butter, miso, thyme, and wine - much yum 🤤

Sonoma Mycology Association (SOMA) 2025 for scholarships is open! www.sonomamycology.org/scholarships

Take a look at these brilliant eyelash cups (Scutellinia scutellata), small #ascomycota fungi that grow on wood, not edible

In honor of the premier of season 2 of “The Last Of Us” on @hbomax.bsky.social, here are some pics of Cordyceps militaris, the common species of Cordyceps that occurs in North America. This species tends to infect larvae in the soil and does not “zombify” its host #tlou #lastofus

Massive conk of Ganoderma brownii, it’s been growing on a this stump for many years, the white part is the fresh spore producing surface (hymenium)

Check out this hairy purple Panus, a bitter lilac oysterling (Panus conchatus) seen growing on an oak log in Sonoma, CA
